Housing & Food Services (HFS) supports over 10,000 student residents and operates 40+ dining locations on campus. We challenge ourselves to engage in open dialogue, active listening, and empathic learning. **POSITION PURPOSE** Lead and participate in all service aspects of catered events including: gathering, preparing and delivering supplies, setting up and restoring event sites, training and coordinating our student service team and serving food. **DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES** + Review event orders with manager as needed. + Gather supplies and food items in accordance with Banquet Event Order. + Use gathering checklists, timelines and section maps. + Make and/or mix a variety of beverage options such as coffee, non-alcoholic “mocktails”, punch, ice tea, and lemonade; may include occasional bartending. + Operate and re-fuel large delivery trucks according to University policy. + Train all aspects of food service to student staff. + Operate motorized equipment, including pallet jacks, freight elevators and truck lift gates. + Review par levels and advise management or culinary of impending outages and ensures that there are adequate supplies for next day’s deliveries. + Maintain a clean, clear and unobstructed work area. + Pull “hard sets” for next morning deliveries or upcoming events. + Portion and serve meals and drinks at attended events. + Provide professional customer service in all client and guest interaction. + Provide leadership in accordance with department and University policies and procedures serving as an example for the student team to follow. + Clean and maintain catering equipment. + Ensure unit staff are properly trained on using CBORD FSS system by referring them to Dining Systems for training, as well as providing ongoing guidance and feedback. + Take inventory counts using tally sheets from CBORD FSS system. + Perform related duties as assigned. **MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS** + Possession of, or eligible to obtain a Washington State Food Worker Card and (if required) a Class 12 Liquor License within two weeks of employment, one year of related experience in catering or dining and customer service, AND + Possession of Washington State Driver’s License (if required). **SPECIFIC POSITION REQUIREMENTS** References that can verify: + Success in interpreting instructions and communications written in English. + Success in communicating with customers in waiting tables and/or serving banquets. + History of safe operation of small trucks and delivery vehicles. + Success in working in environments where there is continuous interaction with guests and staff throughout the work shift. + Success executing off-site catered events. + Punctuality and satisfactory attendance. **DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS** + Ability to use the Internet, email, and Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel. Familiarity with basic computer skills. **CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT** + A satisfactory outcome from the employment verification and reference check processes. + A Washington State Food Worker Card within two weeks of employment and maintain thereafter. **PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS** + Frequent, repetitive arm, hand and wrist motions. + Continuously reaching at waist level and occasionally above waist and shoulder level. + Continuously performing fine manipulations such as slicing and dicing. + Frequent lifting and carrying of up to 25 pounds; occasionally lifting up to 50 pounds. + Frequently pushing and pulling up to 10 pounds of pressure; occasionally pushing and pulling with 20 pounds of force. + Standing up to 90 minutes at a time for up to 7.5 hours a day, varying stance and postures. + Working in a confined space such as a store room or walk-in refrigerator/freezer. + Working in a warm and humid environment. **KEY COMPETENCIES** + Works in a positive and constructive manner with supervisor, co-workers, students and clients served. + Communicates effectively and professionally. + Maintains a warm, friendly, professional disposition in stressful situations. + Drives safely and observes all motor vehicle laws. + Displays extensive fine dining and/or catering knowledge and service skills. + Accurately follows detailed written and verbal instructions. + Work effectively in a fast paced environment. + Works within prescribed time constraints to meet schedules and productivity levels as assigned. + Knows institutional and departmental policies and procedures related to catering and driving motor vehicles. + Demonstrates comprehension of and/or effectiveness in the use of maps, food service equipment, knife safety, liquor service, gather sheets, timelines, Motorpool regulations and service standards. + Interprets and applies kitchen, food handling and vehicle safety guidelines. + Maintains punctuality and consistent attendance. + Demonstrates willingness and ability to effectively train others.
