About the Indiana School for the Blind and Visually Impaired (ISBVI): The Indiana School for the Blind and Visually Impaired is one of the largest schools for the blind and visually impaired in the country, in terms of its student population. ISBVI's vision is to provide diverse and salient opportunities for students, educators, and families to access and benefit from its resources. The school is posed to serve as a center of educational excellence and a broker of best practices research and training for educators, students, and families - which will have the effect of significantly improving the educational experiences and lives of children who are blind or have low vision. Role Overview: The Food Service Worker assists with food production and dining for residential and visiting students. You will ensure that work areas and equipment are sanitized, prepare a variety of foods, assist with food deliver, and support the general cleanliness of the dining area. Salary Statement: This position traditionally starts at an annual salary of $26,312.00 ($13.49 per hour). Salary for this position may be commensurate with education and job experience. A Day in the Life: The essential functions of this role are as follows: + Supervise testing of and/or tests new recipes and makes recommendations for changing, adding of deleting recipes. + Train and supervise cooks in proper food preparation. + Review, evaluate, counsel and discipline work of subordinates. + Make menu substitutions based upon availability or surplus of foods. + Maintain control of all goods and supplies in assigned kitchen area. + Instruct food service staff on proper use and maintenance of equipment. + Requisition food and supplies from facility warehouse as needed according to menus. + Ensure that proper sanitation standards are maintained in kitchen and dining areas. + Plan daily work assignments for each food service employee and prepares monthly work schedules. + Train and supervise food service staff to ensure portion control. + Train and supervise facility workers and cooks in cleaning, kitchen equipment, utensils, and dining area. + Interview new applicants and makes recommendations for hiring, promotions, dismissals, and merit increases etc. + Workday attendance at assigned worksite(s) is an essential function of this position. What You'll Need for Success: You must meet the following requirements to be considered for employment: + Specialized knowledge of modern methods, materials, and equipment used in large scale food preparation, service, and the care necessary to maintain such equipment. + Specialized knowledge of federal, state and facility regulations involving food preparation and sanitation. + Specialized knowledge of recipe standardization and appropriate recipe standardization and appropriate recipe and menu substitutions. + Ability to train, evaluate and counsel food service staff. + Ability to plan and maintain efficient workflow and work distribution. + Ability to maintain control over food and supplies. + Able to perform essential functions with or without reasonable accommodation.
