The Food Systems Advisor will provide food systems technical guidance, leadership and support in designing and implementing national and sub-national multisectoral nutrition activities for ELEVATE Nutrition Ghana. The Food Systems Advisor will provide technical assistance to national- and sub-national government actors to deliver equitable and quality multisectoral nutrition services that promote household resilience and food security, including support to planning, budgeting, and implementing. Additionally, the Food Systems Advisor will support activities related to increasing non-health sector service providers’ (e.g., Agriculture Extension Agents) understanding and promotion of recommended nutrition behaviors, promoting non-health sector solutions to addressing anemia among women and children, and the design and implementation of the project’s research agenda and collaborating, learning and adapting (CLA) activities.
The Food Systems Advisor will report to the Deputy Chief of Party - Technical and will collaborate closely with technical team members in the ELEVATE Nutrition Ghana and headquarters offices. This position will be based in Tamale, Ghana.
Essential Job Functions: Duties and ResponsibilitiesProvide food systems technical leadership and guidance in the design and implementation of ELEVATE Nutrition Ghana’s multisectoral nutrition activities.Define and manage ELEVATE Nutrition Ghana’s work plan activities related to food systems.Provide technical assistance to sub-national governments for integrating food systems activities into their plans and budgets.Promote quality implementation of food systems activities at sub-national levels through technical support and capacity strengthening.Contribute to ELEVATE Nutrition Ghana’s CLA agenda, ensuring that food systems content is technically sound.Lead and/or contribute to the design of training materials, job aids, tools and/or data collection instruments, ensuring that food systems content is technically sound.Contribute to annual work plans and quarterly and annual progress reports to USAID.Promote gender equality and social inclusion in the design and implementation of activities, guided by the ELEVATE Nutrition Gender Strategy.Contribute to efforts to document and disseminate best practices, lessons learned, and success stories related to ELEVATE Ghana’s programming.Collaborate with ELEVATE Nutrition headquarters technical advisors on technical activities to ensure alignment with ELEVATE Nutrition’s global processes and best practices.Perform other duties as needed.Qualifications and RequirementsMaster’s degree or international equivalent in Agriculture, Public Health, Nutrition, Social Sciences or related field; preferred.At least 8 years of experience in agriculture, livelihoods, nutrition, public health or related field for donor-funded projects, preferably within multisectoral and/or nutrition programs.In-depth knowledge of food systems in Ghana.Relevant experience in providing food systems technical assistance to government entities in Ghana, preferred.Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.Keen attention to detail for ensuring data quality and accuracy.Ability to work effectively with diverse teams and stakeholders.Willingness to travel within Ghana, especially the five northern regions.Prior experience with USAID-funded programs, particularly Feed the Future initiatives, is highly desirable.This job posting summarizes the main duties of the job.
