This vacancy is located within the Forensic Aftercare Clinic at the Eastern Louisiana Mental Health System, New Orleans, LA. ELMHS is the largest 24-hour, multi-site, state psychiatric complex, comprised or residential, outpatient and inpatient services.
This vacancy is located in Orleans Parish and will be domiciled in New Orleans, LA. The appointed candidate will be required to attend orientation for one week, in Jackson, LA.
Salary is negotiable based on experience
This posting may be used to fill vacancies in other divisions or units at Eastern Louisiana Mental Health System within 90 days of closing.
The position may be filled as either a Probational or Job Appointment (open to all qualified applicants); a promotion (open to all statewide classified and Agency-wide permanent status employees); by Detail to Special Duty; or as a part-time, temporary WAE. Current permanent status, classified employees may be required to accept a Probational appointed if selected. If filled as a Job Appointment, there is a possibility that this position may be converted to a Probational Appointment should funding become available.

Minimum Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
A master’s degree in a social science field, social work, behavioral health field, public health, education, or health administration plus four years of experience providing behavioral health treatment; OR
A Juris Doctorate plus three years of experience providing behavioral health treatment; OR
Possession of a current Louisiana license to practice as a Licensed Master's Social Worker (LMSW), Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), or Certified Social Worker (CSW) plus three years of experience providing behavioral health treatment.

JOB DISTINCTIONS:
Differs from Forensic Community Services Supervisor by the absence of supervisory responsibility.
Examples of Work
Conducts interviews and assessments on clients/patients incarcerated or in the community for pre-trial/hospital admission purposes.
Provides competency restoration services to pre-trial clients in a jail-based setting and/or within the community.
Attend court hearings with clients/patients, provide the courts with status reports on clients, and may be required to testify when needed.
Interacts continuously with the judicial system (judges, lawyers, etc.) by reporting client/patient progress/incidents throughout the Conditional Release/Supervised Probation Program.
Conducts visits to clients home in hazardous environments and to community-based group homes.
Writes and interprets reports such as court orders, status reviews, episode reports, etc.
Recommends clients/patients for orders of protective custody through law enforcement, a coroner's emergency certificate through the coroner's office, or physicians emergency certificate through the mental health provider, hospital emergency room, forensic consultant, etc. or for placement at Eastern Louisiana Mental Health System.
Clinically evaluates clients/patients on an ongoing basis for signs of mental illness, substance abuse, dangerous behaviors, etc.
Provides consultation and assistance regarding services for clients.
Develops plans for providing professional mental health services, medical services, housing, etc.
Confers and coordinates services with social, health, community, and correctional/criminal justice agencies throughout the region.
Travels throughout assigned region frequently and statewide occasionally to perform job duties.
