The Position
Forensic Specialists perform a combination of security and client care duties in a secure mental health facility for treatment/evaluation of the mentally and/or medically ill offender and/or offenders whose competency requires evaluation.
Incumbents function as first-line supervisors who train, supervise and evaluate the performance of assigned staff; assign and review work; and initiate disciplinary action.
Southern Nevada Adult Mental Health Services (SNAMHS) Forensic Services is currently recruiting for a Forensic Specialist IV at Stein Forensic Hospital. This is a promotional opportunity for current Forensic Specialists employed with Division of Public and Behavioral Health (DPBH). Stein Forensic Hospital is in Las Vegas, NV and services Local jurisdictions of Southern Nevada. This is a secure forensic hospital that houses court-committed clients for competency restoration and provides inpatient and outpatient services. Forensic Specialist IV perform a variety of supervisorial duties for daily forensic operations. This position supervises and manages all security and safety functions to include but no limited to unit operations, client safety, transportation (internal and external), incident response, accident investigations, visiting, and attorney meetings. The Forensic Specialist IV will also be responsible for administrative and clerical duty functions to include, but not limited to, hospital staffing, training, reporting writing, maintaining logs and trackers, timesheets approvals, employees appraisals, employee disciplinary process, court hearings, and attend mandatory meetings, committees, and treatment teams. To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
Graduation from high school or equivalent education and four years of experience in a mental health, medical, correctional, law enforcement, or related setting, three years which included providing care, treatment, and supervision for individuals with mental illness. In addition, applicants must have attained and maintained valid certification as required by statute and regulation; OR one year of experience as a Forensic Specialist III in Nevada State service and valid certification as required by statute and regulation; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above to include valid certification as required by statute and regulation.
Special Notes
Applicants must meet minimum standards for appointment as a peace officer as established in the Nevada Revised Statutes and Nevada Administrative Code.
Some positions require incumbents to obtain and maintain certification as a mental health technician per NRS 433.279 as a condition of continuing employment.
Special Requirements
Pursuant to NRS 284.4066, this position has been identified as affecting public safety. Persons offered employment in this position must submit to a pre-employment screening for controlled substances.
A valid driver's license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continued employment.
This position is subject to call-out or call-back.
Working weekends and/or holidays is required.
A State of Nevada/FBI background check will be required of the selected applicant.
Positions at the Forensic Specialist III and Forensic Specialist IV must have successfully completed Category III Peace Officer Standards Training (P.O.S.T.) at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
Additional Position Criteria
This recruitment is only open to current classified employees in state service with at least six months of continuous, full-time equivalent service.
