DCR’s staff is passionate, dedicated, and continuously employs best practices that are informed by expertise, and creates a sense of place through carrying out the mission. *_Job Opening:_* The Department of Conservation and Recreation is seeking candidates for the position of Forester II, Forest Health Forestry Supervisor. In addition, DCR has conservation programs that enhance and protect natural resources throughout the Commonwealth. The Forest Health Program is a critical first line of defense for monitoring forest health issues across the state. Responsible for planning and implementationofForest Health insect and diseasesurveysand treatment programs,particularly providingexpertiseon forest pathology and supporting the AsianlonghornedBeetleEradicationProgram. Superviseteam of fulltime and seasonal staff. 1. 2. DUTIES: -Oversee and manage federal grants related to forests healthdiseaseand insect monitoring, including ALB Cooperative Agreement. -Supervisefull time and LTS DCR staff. -Work with City and Federal officials in negotiating and creating regulatory and survey protocols in a quarantine. -IdentifyAsianLonghornedBeetle damage on the12different host genera of trees. -Utilizeknowledge and extensive experience in Northeastern Forest Ecology, including virology, bacteriology, mycology, entomology, biology,ecologyand plant pathology aspects as they pertain to forest health. -Utilize knowledgeof the terminology and standard abbreviations used in connection withpathologyand the invasivediseaseof the Northeast. -Utilizedigital data collection methods and GIS tools for insect and disease surveys. -Oversee procurement process for DCR/state procurement obligations related to theForest Healthprogram. Ensure all laws,rulesand best practicesrelativeto procurement and financing are followed. -Provide technicalassistanceand related informationregardingforest healththreats tomunicipal officials, property owners and thegeneral public. -Provide oversight andassistanceto USDA and DCR compliance officers with regulatory issues in accordancetoMGLCh. 132 and Ch. 266. -Compile information for the purpose of presenting workshops and technical training onforest health issues. -Represent MA DCR Forest Health Program at interagency meetings, as assigned. -Present Forest Health Updates for the state of Massachusetts at interagency meetingsandappropriate trainings, as assigned. -Prepare reports for and attend assigned meetings and conference calls. -Provide oversite for the development and implementation of forest pathogen early detection and disease spread protocols. -Collect samples and provide identificationof forest pathogens. -Represent the state’s interests on all mattersrelated to the Mass.AsianLonghornedBeetleinfestation. -Remain current on the invasive and pest insect, pathogen, and pest problems of the Northeast and Massachusetts. -Provide assistance, as assigned, to the Forest Health Program withpathogenand insectmonitoring, trapping,biosurveillance,and control. 1. *First consideration will be given to those applicants that apply within the first 14 days.* Minimum Entrance Requirements: Applicants must have at least (A) three years of full-time, or equivalent part-time, technical or professional experience in the field of forest resource management, of which (B) at least one year must have been in a professional capacity, or (C) any equivalent combination of the required experience and the substitutions below. Substitutions: I. An Associate's degree with a major in forest resource management may be substituted for a maximum of one year of the required (A) experience.* II. A Bachelor's or higher degree with a major in forest resource management may be substituted for a maximum of two years of the required (A) experience.** III. A Graduate degree with a major in forest resource management may be substituted for the required experience** *Education toward such a degree will be prorated on the basis of the proportion of the requirements actually completed.
