Forestry Planning Student Intern

We are looking for someone to join our Forestry Planning Team. Perspective candidates should be currently in a program related to; Forestry, Environmental Sciences, or Natural Resource Management.  Forestry Planning is part of the Asset Management group, which supports the business by making data-driven decisions, to enable ATCO to deliver optimal value from our electrical assets for our customers.

Who you are:

Must be enrolled in an internship program at a recognized Canadian university. Must be both an organized, self-motivated individual who is able to work effectively under minimal supervision and someone who works effectively within a team environment on complex technical projects Possesses effective verbal and written communication skills Must have a willingness to learn new processes and skills Familiar with data management principles The following attributes are an asset:  Experience with spatial data and ArcGIS (ESRI or FME) Coding ability (especially in Python or R) and knowledge of Machine Learning processes Knowledge of Remote Sensing data (especially LiDAR) and provincial landscape datasets An understanding of tree growth and yield science Experience within the Electric Utilities Industry

What you get to do as a Forestry Planning Intern:

Data Management  QC the accuracy and format of various datasets from multiple sources    Ensure data management standards are consistently followed Support data storage and retrieval systems Analytics  Support remote sensing-based analysis projects Ad-hoc analysis to support various maintenance and construction initiatives Analyze field workplans, inventory patrols, and asset data to facilitate business decisions  Outreach  Work with the ATCO team lead and other subject matter experts to facilitate successful projects and develop strategies to improve data management or analytical processes  Gather input and data from all levels of the business to quantify project costs, risks, and benefits. 

Educational Qualifications:

Students currently in one of the following program areas (or similar) are preferred: Forestry Natural Resources Environment Geography or GIS sciences
