Forklift Helper (Spotter)
Summary

The spotter/ helper will perform a variety of tasks to directly support the company’s shipping department. Tasks include but are not limited to: guiding the forklift when the driver’s vision is blocked, directing the positioning of a load on the forks while it is being loaded, watching for hazards when lifting and driving, ensuring skates are properly placed and aligned under the skid prior to movement and ensuring all safety parameters are being met. This individual must be willing and able to work outside in seasonal temperatures or inside a warehouse. Ability to multitask, attention to detail and strong organizational skills are a must. 

Principle Responsibilities and Duties Clear and concise communication to the driver using either approved hand signals or radios.  Proper placement of skates underneath skids for movements. Watching for drop-offs overhead wires, piping, and other hazards when lifting a load or moving a load Understand the route the forklift is travelling, and the hazards/ risks associated. Follow all safety requirements. Following the forklift, while traveling to protect the lift, the load, and other vehicles  Maintain constant visual contact with the driver while the vehicle is in motion.  May be required to operate forklift to assist in loading/unloading/movement of pallets. Other duties as assigned by the Logistics Supervisor.  Qualifications Previous experience as spotter or forklift operator. Desire to learn the limitations and hazards related to forklift operations.  Display a professional can-do attitude. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. Excellent organizational skills; ability to multitask, detail oriented.  Requires Valid Driver’s License. Skilled in following safety practices/policies, recognizing hazards. Physical Requirements

Physical Demands: 
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, and clearly articulate actions surrounding loads. The employee is occasionally required to use stairs or elevators. The employee must regularly lift and/or move more than 25 pounds.


Work Environment: 
While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be exposed to outside weather conditions (wet and/or humid) and moving mechanical parts. The employee may be exposed to fumes or airborne particles if in the shop, warehouse, or yard. The noise level in the shop, warehouse, or yard work environment is sometimes loud.
