Forklift Operator

As the Forklift Operator, you will be a vital member at one of our Alaskan processing facilities responsible for operating forklifts to transport raw materials, finished products, and packaging materials within the facility. You will need to adhere to strict safety protocols and maintain a clean and organized work environment. As the Forklift Operator, you will need to possess a strong attention to detail, good spatial awareness, and the ability to work efficiently and safely in a fast-paced environment.  

Essential Functions/Qualifications  

The responsibilities of the position include the following:  

Identify damages before operation with proper PPE (Seatbelts, Reflector Vest, Bump Cap.)   Unload/Upload materials while meeting set volume in a fast environment safely.   Identify problems and correct them as they occur.   Work closely with department supervisor and management to ensure high quality of produced products, reports shortages and quality deficiencies.   Transport raw materials/ finished products to Iron Butcher, Fillet case up, Byproduct case up, IQF case up, loading dock.   Responsible for production clean-up to maintain the cleanliness of production area.  Strictly adhere to all safety rules while operating any and all driven machinery. Other duties as assigned to ensure the facility and organization is fully supported and successful.

Operating forklifts: Safely and accurately maneuvering forklifts to load, unload, and transport materials. Safety compliance: Adhering to strict safety regulations and procedures to prevent accidents and injuries. Material handling: Handling various types of materials, including heavy and hazardous substances. Plant organization: Maintaining a well-organized and efficient warehouse environment.  

Interpersonal  

Communication: Clearly and effectively communicating with colleagues, supervisors, and other team members. This includes following instructions, reporting issues, and providing updates on tasks. Teamwork: Working cooperatively with others to achieve shared goals. This involves coordinating tasks, sharing information, and supporting team members. Problem-solving: Collaborating with others to identify and resolve issues that may arise during operations. Respect: Treating colleagues with respect and professionalism, regardless of their role or position. Adaptability: Being flexible and open to change, as job requirements and workplace conditions may evolve. 

Education and Experience  

High school diploma or GED equivalent preferred but not required. Previous seafood or manufacturing industry experience preferred. 3 to 6 months of related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.  Ability to speak; read, write and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence and memos in English for effective communication.  

Work Environment and Schedule   

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts. The employee is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and extreme cold. The employee is occasionally exposed to high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; outside weather conditions; risk of electrical shock and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud. Position requires onsite presence at our Alaska Processing Facility, and the ability to travel, spending a significant amount of time during the season at our various locations and processing facilities in Alaska.   

Physical Demands   

While performing the essential function and job duties associated with the job, the employee is regularly required to sit, handle, or feel and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk; reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

The employee is frequently required to set an example by consistently modeling ambitious standards of honesty and integrity. Presentation and sharing of information should be handled directly, appropriately, and helpfully. Maintains a reputation for honesty, confidentiality, reliability, and fairness.
