Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and innovative Formulations Chemist to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding in chemistry or a related field and possess industry experience in personal care formulations. This role requires the ability to work independently in the lab, collaborate with clients, and manage multiple projects from concept to completion.
ResponsibilitiesConduct bench top formulations.Perform various wet chemistry tests such as water activity, viscosity, and solids content.Conduct applications testing utilizing Dia-Stron instrumentation.Manage projects from concept to finished product.Support Sales/Marketing team by creating prototypes to showcase technologies.Collaborate with Sales/Marketing team, Technical Manager, and Technical Service personnel to develop formulations that meet customer needs.Conduct vendor research for raw materials.Research product formulations, properties, and interactions of raw materials.Manage multiple, concurrent development projects.Communicate all information regarding formulation, project status, and results in a timely manner to all appropriate individuals.Stay updated on retail market trends and formulation/ingredient trends.Make recommendations for the development of the Wet Chemistry Laboratory.Maintain the Wet Chemistry Laboratory, supporting documentation, reports, instruments, and ensure general cleanliness.Assist microbiology and/or prep laboratories as assigned.Assist in the technical training of sales force, fellow lab personnel, and visiting customers when required.Maintain high standards of lab safety and health within OSHA and other relevant codes of practice, including conducting laboratory safety inspections.Participate in establishing and carrying out quality management system policies, including conducting quality audits as required.Attend relevant courses and seminars to enhance product development/formulation skills.Work with administrative staff to update/maintain formulation and technical literature.Participate in carrying out the quality and management system (current ISO 9001 standard) policy.Ensure high cooperation and communication between departments, and report customer communications to the relevant account-holder.Present information/statistics to Management as required.Monitor the effectiveness of operations in your area of responsibility.Promote and maintain high morale and cooperation within the organization.Comply with company safety, health, and environmental policies.Ensure filing and computerized filing is maintained in accordance with company policy.Essential SkillsBS/MS in Chemistry, Biology, or related field.Minimum of 2-3 years industry experience with benchtop formulation.Knowledge of industry trends.Proficient communication and computer skills.Knowledge of personal care and household products raw materials and their functionality and interactions.Understanding of emulsion and surfactant technology as well as general formulation techniques.Detail-oriented and organized.Ability to work autonomously with an aptitude for innovation.Highly collaborative with a passion for formulation.Work Environment
The position operates during the first shift, Monday to Friday, with flexible hours (e.g., 7am-3pm, 8am-4pm). The Formulations Chemist will work independently in the lab alongside a lab assistant who divides their time between four labs. There is only one person in the formulations department. The role reports to the Group Leader of Personal Care/Household Products.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $30.00 - $40.00/hr.
