HX5 is currently seeking a Fracture Mechanics Engineer to join the team with NASA at Johnson Space Center (JSC). 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Develop fracture mechanics and programming solutions for the NASGRO® Fracture Mechanics and Fatigue Crack Growth Software applications suite.Participate in research projects in fracture mechanics and fatigueInteract with the community of software users extensivelyPerform other duties as required.

Bachelor's Degree in engineering from an ABET-accredited engineering school and one (1) year of relevant experienceExpertise in computational methods and tools to solve Fracture Mechanics problemsAbility to navigate through and write additional segments of code to existing software with Fortran core and C++ graphical user interface.Ability to write Fortran code is essential.Knowledge of GUI tool kits such as wxWidgets is desirable.Strong communication skills, both written and oral, are needed. Ability to respond efficiently and competently to queries from large user community is essential.Ability to work effectively, rationally and quickly in real-time environments of rapid-change, conflicting requirements, and occasional pressure.Familiarity with MS Office Software is expected.Familiarity with LaTeX system for technical documentation is desirable.

Preferences

Master's Degree in Mechanical, Aerospace or Civil Engineering from an ABET accredited engineering school and eight (8) years of direct engineering experienceOR a Ph. D degree and four (4) years direct engineering experience.Knowledge of numerical methods such as Finite Elements and Boundary Elements will be a plus. Management has the prerogative to select at any level for which this position has been advertised

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:

This is a full-time position and offers a 9/80 work schedule (every other Friday off).

Work Environment:

Generally, an office environment, but can involve inside or outside work depending on task.Equipment and Machines - Standard office equipment (PC, telephone, printer, etc.).

Physical Requirements:

Work may involve sitting or standing for extended periods (90% of time). May require lifting and carrying up to 25 lbs. (5% of time).

Other Position Requirements: 
 

Proof of U.S. Citizenship or US Permanent Residency is a requirement for this position.Must be able to complete a U.S. government background investigation.
