Summary/Objective: The Freight Claims Specialist is responsible for managing, investigating, and processing claims related to damaged, lost, or delayed shipments within the transportation or logistics industry. This role requires close coordination with carriers, customers, and internal teams to ensure that claims are handled efficiently and effectively. Duties and Responsibilities: Essential Functions: Primary Duty: the principal, main, major, or most important duty of this position is to Initiate, track, and process freight claims for damaged, missing, or delayed goods through coordinating with customers, carriers, and insurance providers to ensure that claims are resolved efficiently. Ensure that all documentation, including proof of loss, receipts, and inspection reports, are properly submitted and maintained. Investigate the cause of the freight damage or loss, often working with third-party adjusters or inspectors. Gather evidence, including photographs, shipping documents, and other relevant data. Maintain a record of claims and resolutions for future reference. Communicate with clients to explain the claims process and provide updates. Work with logistics teams, carriers, and internal departments to resolve issues in a timely manner. Offer advice to clients on how to prevent claims in the future, such as proper packaging or shipping practices. Negotiate settlements with carriers, insurance companies, or other stakeholders. Work with legal teams or external parties to address any complex claims or disputes. Ensure all claims are handled in accordance with company policies, industry regulations, and carrier agreements. Prepare and submit regular reports on claim status, trends, and performance metrics to management. Working Conditions: Primarily working indoors, office environment. May sit for several hours at a time. Prolonged exposure to computer screens. Repetitive use of hands to operate computers, printers, and copiers. Exposure to distribution center environments Qualifications: Education: A high school diploma or equivalent is typically required; a bachelor's degree in business, logistics, or a related field may be preferred. Experience: Previous experience in logistics, transportation, customer service, or claims management is often required. Position Type/Expected Hours of Work: This is a full-time salary position, and hours/days of work are decided by production schedules and your reporting manager. Travel: Travel will be minimal and would be primarily local during the business day. Preferred Education and Experience: Certified Logistics Associate (CLA) or Certified Supply Chain Professional (CSCP) Bachelor's Degree (Preferred, but not always required): Fields of Study: Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Transportation, or related fields.
