Freight (Transportation) Specialist

Role and Responsibilities

In a nutshell, activities within this role aim to provide operational support for shipments and projects within the ASML supply chain, freight bill auditing, reporting, and transport management system.  You will support the P&D (Planning & Delivery) Freight Operations department and work closely together with other freight operations team members across the globe and with relevant stakeholders throughout the ASML supply chain. 

The P&D Freight Operations team is responsible to design, build, and maintain the global logistics transportation network in line with customer requirements. A flawless distribution network is key for a smooth supply chain. Fast and flexible transportation networks, differentiated warehousing solutions and complex value-added services are some characteristics of our landscape as P&D.  In this role, you will focus on activities supporting the business surrounded by a team of professionals driving the supply chain infrastructure towards innovations, business / customer needs, 3PL performance, and process analytics.

Activities are grouped and not limited to:

Freight On-Time Delivery

Tracking and troubleshooting of ongoing shipments in cooperation with warehouses, freight forwarders, and customs brokers to secure timely communication and on-time delivery.

Support the daily management of the freight forwarders as escalation point of contact for any shipping challenges.

Process and respond to inquiries via a ticketing tool and emails throughout the day addressing and resolving any challenges incurred by our business partners to keep business continuity flowing.

Drive KPI’s, improve processes, and seek continuous improvements in regular activities as well as special projects.

Run assigned weekly business review meetings with freight forwarders in partnership with the carrier management team.

Ensure adherence to standard shipping processes and established ways of working with correct usage of the transportation management system (TMS) for both internal and external users.

Ensure data completeness and accuracy in SAP and TMS by interacting with 3PLs and transportation partners.

Freight Bill Auditing / Cost Control

Utilize rate cards and information within transportation management system to secure exact match with the transport rate agreements and compare these with the actual freight bills making sure the registration of cost is done correctly.

Investigate freight bills that do not follow the normal approval flow and work to get them corrected.

Provide rate quotes to internal business partners for cost analysis supporting them in accurately making business decisions around overall operational costs.

Education and Experience

High School Diploma with minimum 10 years of relevant work experience or Bachelor in logistics, supply chain management, operational management and 3-7 years of relevant work experience

Experience in a challenging environment coordinating with different stakeholders and layers.

Work experience in cross-functional teams.

Intermediate competencies in MS Excel and PowerPoint.

Knowledge of transportation management systems (TMS), their set-up and application, SAP ECC experience preferred.

Knowledge of customs import and export regulations is a plus.

Role within Office  

Responsibilities:  

Routinely required to sit; walk; talk; hear; use hands to keyboard, finger, handle, and feel; stoop, kneel, crouch, twist, reach, and stretch. Occasionally required to move around the campus. 

Occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds. 

May require travel dependent on business needs. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
