Front End Web Developer

The McIntire School of Commerce at the University of Virginia seeks a Web Developer to join its fast-paced Marketing and Communications team. The MarComm team serves as a full-service internal solutions partner for the McIntire School, guiding and supporting clients on their marketing initiatives and reporting on their outcomes.

They will be a highly skilled front-end web developer with a broad and flexible understanding of web-based marketing technologies. They will serve primarily as an individual contributor in a client-facing role. The primary function of the position is oversight — including building and maintenance — of all McIntire’s headless Drupal and WordPress environments. Additional key responsibilities include regular review of analytics, integration of third-party software, building and maintaining widgets for McIntire’s intranet, assistance with digital advertising and search optimization, support for email marketing if needed, and staff training across platforms. Success in the role is calibrated through a mix of website performance, project management efficiency, and client satisfaction

Core Responsibilities

Work expertly across the front-end web stack, building, maintaining and optimizing scalable, distributed features and solutions that enable positive user experiencesOversee and advocate for the back-end infrastructure, including servers, databases, and application logic, that supports the School's web environment.Design, develop, and deploy new features and infrastructure in support of business and project requirementsManage vendor support as needed to deploy code updates, conduct server management and database optimization, triage dependencies, run security updates, define user permissions, plan for disaster recovery, and optimize the performance of the overall system.Assume leadership of new clients and projects, from conceptualization to deployment, with a ability to meet priorities across multiple projects through effective project management and clear client communicationWork with agile development methodologies, adhering to best practices and pursuing continued learning opportunities.Collaborate closely with the Sr. Manager of Marketing Technologies and the McIntire IT unit to select, procure, onboard, and integrate new marketing and communications technologies into the McIntire digital ecosystem and generate documentation accordingly.Establish website architecture, navigation, labels, and nomenclatures and leverage a robust taxonomy to drive strategic content connectivity across web propertiesSet up conversion tracking codes, goals and events; remarketing; and keywords

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, MIS, Computer Engineering or related disciplineAt least one year of experience. Significant hands-on development experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.Ability to project manage the web development process end-to-end, including UX/UI principles for design, development and deployment of features, integrations, and functionalitiesProven knowledge of back-end/infrastructure maintenance and optimizationExperience setting up conversion tracking codes, goals and events; remarketing; and keywordsComprehensive understanding of brand for visual style guidelines and content strategyOutstanding written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills

Preferred Qualifications

Preference will be given to candidates with a Bachelor’s degree and at least 5 years of experience in website management. Experience with responsive web designInterest in AI and IA integrationsPrevious professional work experience in a creative or digital agency

The ideal candidate will be proficient in the following technical skills: PHP, Drupal, WordPress, HTML5/XHTML and CSS, JavaScript ideally the “Vue Framework”, and Git/Github. They should have a understanding of SQL and database interaction, as well as familiarity with concepts and fundamentals of REST API and serverless architecture. Additionally, the candidate should demonstrate knowledge of secure coding practices, data encryption, and common web vulnerabilities. Experience with Google Ads and Analytics platforms is essential, along with a strong understanding of GDPR and other privacy regulations.

Anticipated hiring range: $75,000 - $90,000
