FSET 3 - Radio Frequency (RF) Engineer 3 (Ashore) - Norfolk VA
Overview Systems Engineer will provide support to the Naval Communications and Telecommunications Area Master Station (NCTAMS) government and other contractor personnel related to VLF, HF, UHF, EHF and SHF Satellite Ship/Shore communications transport and the Navy Tactical Wide Area Network (NTWAN). Support also includes administration and maintenance of systems, use and development of standard operating procedures, leading and coordination of troubleshooting efforts to resolve issues on supported units across multiple circuits, systems, and facilities. Responsibilities Candidate will be responsible for supporting the NCTAMS, serving as technical advisor to government and other contractor personnel. Conducts on site troubleshooting and maintenance for multiple communications systems and provides training on new and existing systems. Coordinate repair of installed baseband communications systems and ancillary equipment. Support shore-based facilities to ensure those facilities are fully operational to meet the requirements of fleet units/ships assigned permanently or temporarily to the AOR. Support fleet units/ships as required to ensure connectivity to naval networks, NIPRNET, SIPRNET and SCI. Provide on-site engineering and technical support for the integration of new hardware and software upgrades. Provide recommendations for improvement or alternative communications strategies. Assist in conducting preliminary testing after integration and configuration after site upgrades and modifications. Provide Information Assurance System (IA) administration support for ADNS, ADMS, HSGR, and NTWAN systems. Provide support for NCTAMS restoral procedures and rapid response for emergent issues. Interacting with multiple customer organizations will be required. Less than 5% travel may be required. Qualifications Minimum Qualification: Education and Expereince: BS in Information Technology (or equivalent technical degree) or 6+ years technical experience in related discipline required. 6+ years of experience with DoD enterprise or Navy networks. Fleet NOC or NCTAMS experience highly desired. 6+ years of experience in troubleshooting Naval communications ashore and/or afloat Preferred Certifications: IAT2 certifications required for both OS and IA (Security+ CE or equivalent required). MSCE, MCSA or CCNA certifications desired. Linux or Windows certifications highly desired Skills: Must communicate well both orally and in writing. Must be able to communicate well with senior Navy officials and technical personnel. Must be able to troubleshoot across multiple systems, including those off-site and work with other SMEs to determine cause and actions to take for circuit restoration. Must be able modify technical documentation, SOPs, baseline documentation (drawings, topologies, etc.) and other systems engineering documents. Must be capable of activating, maintaining, and troubleshooting various VLF, UHF, EHF and SHF circuits for all DoD activities. Must have intimate knowledge of fleet communications systems and architecture. Must be able to provide training to Navy personnel. Clearance Requirement: TS/SCI required.
