$42.10 - $54.76

This position entails providing audiological care and hearing services for SEARHC patients. This position requires advanced, sophisticated skills in diagnostic audiology testing, as well as recommendations for treatments of hearing loss and other ear related disorders.

Key Essential Functions and Accountabilities of the Job

Identifies, evaluates, diagnoses, and documents disorders of human hearing, including the degree and type of hearing loss and other auditory disorders for inpatient and outpatient pediatric and adult patients at SEARHC sites throughout the Consortium.Instructs and counsels on the use, fitting, adjustment, and modification of hearing aids and other personal amplification devices for patients and related counseling for family members. Performs adequate and effective follow-up and maintenance of said devices.Provides audiological services to SEARHC sites outside of Mt. Edgecumbe Hospital, which include Juneau, ARMC, Haines, and other village clinics. Travel will involve transportation on small planes and may include after-hours travel. Develops and institutes a quality assurance program in accordance with accepted professional audiology concepts, principles, and evidence-based practice.        Develops, revises, and implements policies and procedures.Accepts and makes referrals as appropriate to other specialties/providers and effectively collaborates and communicates with interdisciplinary teams to provide patient-centered care. This includes coordination with ENT for pre-op and post-op hearing evaluations.Supervises and provides support functions to the audiology technician.

Supervisory Responsibilities

This position does require supervisory responsibilities.

Education, Certifications, and Licenses Required

Master’s degree or Au.D. in Audiology from an accredited university – required.

Experience Required

Five years of experience as a clinical audiologist – preferred

Knowledge of

Knowledge of assessment and evaluation of hearing disorders using evidence-based practices and appropriate diagnostic testing.Knowledge of appropriate treatment options for hearing loss and communication disorders.Encourages involvement of the patient and families in the plan of care and understands the impact of cultural variables.Accountability and adherence to the American Academy of Audiology code of ethics and scope of practice within state and federal guidelines.Knowledge of current audiologic best practices for hearing aid fittings and other amplification devices.

Skills in

Skill in performing hearing aid fittings and follow up care.

Ability to

Ability to implement an audiology program, including developing policies and procedures.Ability to communicate effectively with patients and fellow providers and staff.Ability to combine knowledge of audiologic evaluations with knowledge of otologic diseases to assist physicians and other health care providers in proper diagnosis and treatment.Ability to work independently.

Other Qualifications:     

Familiarity and experience with audiology equipment

Travel Required: 

Up to 50% travel expected.
