Precise Systems seeks an energy systems research scientist/engineer who will work as a leading member of the technical team performing R&D activities in an advanced fuel cell research group at a U.S. Navy laboratory. All work is performed on site, 5 days per week, in Washington D.C. No remote delivery authorized Duties: Develop and/or execute test procedures for characterization of fuel cells and fuel cell materials, including techniques and methods such as Polarization Curves, Cyclic Voltammetry, Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy, etc., at both the single cell and stack levels. Design/fabricate/assemble/operate laboratory test fixtures and controls for single and multiple (stacks) fuel cells. Collect, organize, analyze materials, and fuel cell characterization data. Communicate data results at weekly progress report meetings. Write reports and articles for publication in academic literature and/or the Defense Technical Information Center. Prepare and provide presentations at scientific conferences and program reviews. Perform R&D engineering tasks to support scientific investigation of energy systems. Engage with R&D scientists and engineers to broadly support fuel cell research and development programs. Desired Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry, Materials Science, Engineering, or a related field Required Experience: 4+ years of experience in industrial or academic settings related to energy systems research (materials, cell components, cells and cell assembly or energy system management). Fuel Cell experience is preferred. Experience with electrochemical test methods such as Cyclic Voltammetry, Electrochemical Impedance Spectrometry, Polarization (I-V) Curves, etc. Demonstrated expertise and extensive hands-on experience in fabrication, characterization and evaluation of energy system materials, electrodes, and cells. Ability to develop in-depth knowledge of electrochemical processes and state-of-the-art advancements in fuel cells by review and understanding of published scientific literature. Experience with CAD and 3D printing (e.g., SolidWorks) is preferred. Experience with controls programming languages (e.g. Python, Arduino) is preferred. Experience with fabrication machinery (mills, saws, presses, etc.), power tools, machine shop best practices is preferred. Motivated to work independently and within a dynamic multi-disciplinary team of likeminded scientists and engineers in support of the U.S. Navy mission. Candidates must have experience developing materials, components and/or management and controls for energy systems (fuel cells or batteries) to advance performance or safety aspects Ideal applicants are adaptable to changing projects, self-starters, enjoy hands-on work, can work independently, natural troubleshooters with a vision to translate basic and applied research into tangible technologies and capabilities
