FUEL DISTRIBUTION SYSTEM WORKER
Summary This position is for a FUEL DISTRIBUTION SYSTEM WORKER, PD# NGD0478000, part of the Nevada Army National Guard. This position is located at au Army Aviation Support Facility (AASF) and performs duties involving the ground refueling of one or sore types of military aircraft, fixed or rotary winged. Operates fixed and mobile fuel distribution systems to receive, store, transfer and disperse JP-4 and/or AVGAS used in high performance aircraft. Responsibilities (1) Receives, stores, and issues aviation gasoline and jet fuel for the facility. Orders fuel under a pre-negotiated government contract with a commercial vendor who provides delivery to the site. Receives fuel and assists in off loading into underqround storage facilities. Handles all necessary grounding lines and hoses, monitors gauges, and ensures that proper procedures and safety practices are strictly observed. Ensures proper quantities are received and signs for deliveries. Monitors storage facilities, and ensures they are kept clean and free from conditions which could result in fire or explosion. Ensures that safety regulations are observed by all personnel in the area. (2) Transfers fuel from storage areas to tanker trucks with a fuel capacity of 2500 to 5000 gallons which are utilized to refuel aircraft. Operates necessary transfer and pumping equipment including valves, pumps, safety lines and hoses; monitors gauges and ensures that safety practices and regulations are strictly observed and enforced. Stands ready to implement emergency procedures if an unsafe condition should arise. Performs operator maintenance on storage facilities as required and performs all required fuel testing procedures. Determines existence of water in storage tanks and drains it. Conducts aqua-glo milipor tests at required intervals to determine existence of water and sediment in the fuel. Draws required fuel samples from storage and dispensing units and prepares them for shipment to testing laboratories. (3) Refuels and defuels assigned and transient aircraft, both rotary and fixed wing. Operates tactical and/or commercial type fuel trucks on the aircraft ramp parking area. Performs operator maintenance on the refueling truck and associated equipment. Ensures all aircraft fuel tanks are full to prevent accumulation of explosive vapors. Refueling is normally accomplished shortly after the return of aircraft. Connects grounding cables, operates the pump unit, and handles hoses. Dispenses fuel and enters fuel amount in fuel records and log books as required. (4) May assist authorized firefighters in the performance of fire and crash/reserve duties. May assist Aircraft Mechanics by performing Aircraft Mechanic Helper duties. (5) Performs other duties as assigned. Requirements Conditions of Employment MILITARY REQUIREMENTS: Compatible military grade and assignment required prior to the effective date of placement. In compliance with Title 32 United States Code, the compatible military skill set is determined by the applicable service manpower requirements. Upon selection, individuals are assigned to the authorized position and its compatible military skill in accordance with Army skill classification directives, statutes, and National Guard Bureau regulations. The Dual Status technician must obtain and maintain all military skill requirements in regard to training, education, certifications, experience. GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Must have experience or training which demonstrates the ability to follow instructions and to safely operate the type of equipment required to accomplish the duties of the position. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Must have experience or training pumping gasoline, oil, jet fuel, or other similar products, handling lines and hoses at dock operations, and measuring fuels as they are received, stored, transferred, or loaded into equipment. Experience operating one or more relatively routine workstations and demonstrating skill in manipulating a few controls to regulate the flow of the liquids in a safe and efficient manner. Education There is no specific education requirement for this position. The applicant's record of experience and/or training must show possession of the knowledge, skills and abilities needed to fully perform the duties of the position.
