Drivers typically work without direct supervision and are fully responsible for the safety of their passengers. When not required to drive for IWCC, FT Bus Drivers assist the IWCC maintenance department under the supervision of the Maintenance Supervisor. Job Duties + Demonstrate IWCC’s core mission, vision and values + Transport students and other passengers to and from designated destinations, overnights and weekends, adjust and plan travel routes if necessary + Make routine checks and inspection of bus and equipment for proper operation, safety, and maintenance + Observe and follow all applicable federal, state, local laws, and regulations governing commercial transportation + Follow school district guidelines regarding student management and discipline; report incidents to proper personnel + Maintain required records of bus usage and reports of operation + Drive commercial transportation vehicles with airbrakes + Perform minor maintenance and safety checks of commercial vehicles + Evacuate students during an emergency + Assists maintenance department in assigned tasks + Performs snow removal, as needed Qualifications + High school diploma or GED + Must have and maintain a valid CDL B/passenger license and school bus driver endorsement + Minimum of 6 years general driving experience is preferred + Knowledge of the operation and maintenance of commercial transportation vehicles + Knowledge of federal and state traffic laws and regulations + Knowledge of bus evacuation procedures + Ability to understand and follow specific instructions and procedures + Ability to present information both verbally and in writing in a professional manner + Understand written instruction and complete appropriate documentation as needed + Ability to read, understand, follow, and enforce safety procedures, including Lockout/Tag out + Wear/use PPE at all times + Skill in the use of computers, preferably in a PC, Windows-based operating environment + Work in a cooperative manner with management, co-workers, internal/external customers and vendors + Ability to pass a background check, have a valid U.S Driver’s License and a good driving record + Ability to pass a drug screen & pre-employment physical if applicable Physical Demands + Operation of Class B motor vehicle requiring frequent upper body movement; repetitive use of arms, hands, and fingers to include grasping both firm and light; primarily right side to operate door opener. + The employee frequently is required to sit for extended periods of time and use hands to operate bus equipment + Seeing to drive and to observe work performed + Hearing and speaking to communicate with stu dents, parents, and other staff + Frequent reaching to clean windshields, adjust mirrors, and open/close windows + Frequent bending, stooping, twisting, turning, reaching, carrying, pulling, pushing, climbing (bus ste ps) and extensive sitting + Work environment involves some exposure to hazards or physical risks, which require fol lowing basic safety precautions + Ability to drive com p any owned or personal vehicle and operate lifts and machinery + Exposure to driving a school bus during adverse weather and traffic conditions, extreme temperatures, vehicle exhaust, odors, poor ventilation, and intense noise + Exposure to working around and wit h machinery having moving parts + Work involves limited exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, toxic chemicals, biohazardous materials, dirt, dust, f umes, smoke, and/or loud noises + Work is frequently done in outdoor weather conditions; rain, snow, sun, wind a nd other forms weather + Ability to lift over 50lbs Comprehensive benefits package, including employer paid time off, of up to 19 paid holidays, additional 88 hours of paid time off in the summer, vacation & sick time; employer paid medical, dental, life; HSA with a match, IPERS pension plan with over 9% employer match, reduced summer schedule, free access to our new wellness facility, employee concierge services, and many other voluntary benefits to choose from.
