Chenega Services & Federal Solutions, LLC, a Chenega Professional Services’ company, is looking for a Functional Expert Consultant II (PT) to support the CDC Division of Diabetes Translation by providing expert advice and assistance in the analysis and interpretation of surveillance data on diabetes, its risk factors, and its complications in support of the United States Diabetes Surveillance System (USDSS) with a focus on surveillance. Responsibilities Provide subject matter and technical expertise in the surveillance of diabetes and the clinical aspects of the disease, including: Explore new clinical data sources and surveillance indicators to fill informational gaps in diabetes surveillance. Develop, test, and compare prediction models, algorithms, and definitions used to identify cases of diabetes and related outcomes in structured and unstructured clinical and administrative data. Leverage data visualization software and techniques to tell compelling stories using data. Recommend approaches to optimize use of CDC, NCHS, and other federally-funded data systems. Advise on the future development of USDSS and the National Diabetes Statistics Report. Perform high quality research on surveillance and epidemiological projects related to diabetes and its complications, including: Lead the conceptualization, design, implementation, conduct, analysis, and dissemination of epidemiologic and public health research studies, using administrative and clinical data sources (e.g., pharmaceutical, laboratory). Extract, clean, and interpret raw clinical data streams using appropriate clinical vocabulary standards such as LOINC and SNOMED. Use appropriate text parsing methods to analyze unstructured physician notes. Prepare scientific and other documents, along with technical reports, for a wide variety of audiences, including publication online and in peer-reviewed journals. Assist in maintenance of the USDSS, including: Carry out preprocessing, cleaning, and validating the integrity of clinical and administrative data for use in USDSS. Update the USDSS database to ensure the surveillance data are of the highest quality. Recommend approaches to enhance processing procedures for clinical and administrative data for use in USDSS, especially improvements that would align with CDC’s data modernization initiatives (DMI). Collaborate with CDC DMI and IT teams, USDSS developers and other support staff to address any technical challenges related to USDSS management. Other duties as assigned Qualifications Doctoral degree (MD degree preferred) and extensive experience in public health surveillance, especially in chronic diseases Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Experience in designing and implementing public health surveillance systems Knowledge of analytic data management including best practices, tools, and techniques, including SQL queries Knowledge of statistical methods and the ability to complete and interpret statistical analyses Knowledge of programming languages and statistical analysis software packages; SAS, R, or Python preferred Direct experience performing analytic data management and statistical analysis of administrative and clinical data Basic understanding and foundation in medical informatics Well-versed in clinical and administrative coding/vocabulary systems (e.g., LOINC, ICD, CPT, SNOMED, etc.) Knowledge of data visualization techniques and software, such as Power BI Notable critical thinking and problem-solving skills Strong oral and written communication skills Teleworking Permitted?
