About the Role

 

Magna is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Functional Safety Engineer to ensure the safety and reliability of our Autonomous Mobile Robots (AMRs) and industrial automation systems. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in functional safety standards, risk assessment, and safety-critical system design.

Your Responsibilities Develop and implement functional safety concepts and requirements for AMRs and industrial automation systems. Conduct risk assessments and hazard analyses to identify potential safety issues and develop mitigation strategies. Ensure compliance with relevant safety standards (e.g., ISO 13849, IEC 61508, UL3100, ANSI/RIA R15.08) and regulatory requirements. Lead robotic safety certification activities including managing analyses, documentation and auditor. Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including hardware and software engineers, to ensure safety requirements are integrated into the design and development process. Own configuration and implementation of industrial safety logic software (e.g. Sick Safety Designer). Perform safety validation and verification activities, including safety testing and failure mode analysis. Create and maintain safety documentation, including safety plans, safety cases, and safety manuals. Provide technical guidance and support to project teams on functional safety matters. Participate in safety audits and assessments to ensure ongoing compliance and continuous improvement.

 

Who we are looking for BS in Systems, Electrical, Computer science, or Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent experience. Proven experience in functional safety engineering, preferably in the field of robotics or industrial automation. Ability to manage multiple concurrent projects; requires good time management, prioritization, and organizational skills to meet stringent deadlines. Strong knowledge of relevant safety standards and methodologies (e.g., ISO 13849, IEC 61508). 7+ years of experience with complex electromechanical systems

 

Your preferred qualifications Certification in functional safety (e.g., TÜV Functional Safety Engineer). Experience with Autonomous Mobile Robots (AMRs) or similar robotic systems. Familiarity with industrial automation technologies and protocols Experience with electronics and robotics systems including PLCs, microcontrollers, sensors, actuators. What we offer
