Functional Safety Engineer (Track circuits for ETCS)



What does your future team look like?

Our team consists of more than 30 professionals, ranging from system architects and programmers to hardware developers. Our goal is to develop the next generation of track circuit systems. This system, designed to meet the highest safety integrity level (SIL4), provides critical track vacancy information to railway vehicle control systems. As a key component of the European Train Control System (ETCS), it enhances the safety and efficiency of rail transport across Europe.

Key responsibilities:

Managing the safety process of embedded railway infrastructure systems Participating in the design of system, software, and hardware architecture according to standards EN50126-1/-2, EN50716, EN50129, and EN50159, particularly in FTA (Fault Tree Analysis) and FMEA (Failure Mode and Effects Analysis) Supporting the development team in functional and technical safety matters Assessing the reliability and availability of technical systems (MTBF calculations) Collaborating closely with the safety team, system architects, developers, testers, and project managers Creating essential documentation required by standards, including Safety Plans, Hazard Analyses, Technical Safety Reports, and Safety Cases


Requirements:

University degree in a technical field (Electrical Engineering or Computer Science) Passion for technical systems and a willingness to dive into detailed problem-solving Team spirit, analytical and systematic thinking, and a focus on quality Proficiency in English (most meetings and documentation are in English) Willingness to travel approximately three weeks per year

Preferred qualifications:

Experience or academic background in functional safety or railway infrastructure Knowledge and hands-on experience with hardware or firmware development for embedded devices (we also appreciate personal software projects or hardware tinkering) Basic proficiency in German (for reading documentation)
