Furnace Operations Engineer

Role description: 

The Furnace Operations Engineer is responsible for providing plant support and auditing operations in the batch and furnace areas. This role is responsible for developing operating procedures, identifying and developing process improvement, and troubleshooting operational problems and emergencies. 

 

Responsibilities: 

Monitor and guide plant batch and furnace operations through data review and analysis finding opportunities for improvement through process control, training and development, and investment 

Research emerging technologies and work with engineering to implement changes 

Participate in furnace cold repair design improvement efforts and modeling 

Troubleshoot operating problems 

Develop technical operating procedures and best practice implementation 

Investigate process improvements to procedures or facility equipment utilizing an internal and external resource 

Conduct formal operating data audits and facilitate corrective actions 

Utilize Lean Six Sigma, Hoshin, and other process improvement tools 

 

Minimum skills / qualifications:  

High School Diploma or equivalent 

Five (5) years of experience in furnace operations 

Ability to make statistically sound decisions through analysis 

Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite 

Proficient written and verbal communication 

Effective planning and organizational skills to drive troubleshooting abilities 

Ability to travel up to 50-75% 

 

Preferred skills / qualifications:  

Bachelor's Degree in engineering or a related field 

Lean Six Sigma certification 

Knowledge of glass formulation and furnace design principals
