Job Title: Future Formulation Senior Manager

JOB PURPOSE

This role is your opportunity to join the power house of Unilever Personal Care.  We are looking for a Formulation leader who can spearhead our future in this exciting and diverse category.  Deodorants ('Deo') remains a source of growth and innovation for Unilever and this role offers a direct route to make a big impact to that continued impact.  This is a senior position within Deo Research & Development and we are looking for a candidate who has proven experience, passion and curiosity for formulation, cosmetic science and delivering outstanding products to theirconsumers.   

The Deo category is a key part of the Unilever Personal Care Business Group and of Unilever. With a family of Power Brands – Rexona, Dove, Axe – which are critical growth drivers of the company. 

This role is key to bring formulationexpertise & leadership to the development of new technologies & chassis, focussing on our Contact Applicators (eg Sticks, Roll On’s, creams and lotions), for deployment into world class global innovations. This senior role is responsible for enabling & driving formulation excellence across a team based in Leeds and across our Deodorants R&Dcommunity globally.

RESPONSIBILITIES

The main responsibilities of the role are:

Lead the Formulation program for Contact Applicators, which includes ensuring delivery of the current and new benefit ingredients into formulations that consumer love to use.  

Delivery of the formulation capabilities both physical and digital that the team need to have to continue to lead in this space including outstanding understanding ofproduct microstructure measurement and prediction.

Be the Formulation leadon our largest and most complex project

Provide expert advice to brands and countries on formulation strategies, and troubleshoot complex issues. 

Identify opportunities and execute programs for raw material harmonization and cost savings. 

Lead Deodorants Formulation Community of Practice, and drive technical & functional excellence across the global community.

Work with Science & Technology, Consumer Benefit Platforms & External suppliers to build a roadmap of new ingredients which help deliver new/better benefits, and create chassis fit for future consumer needs & regulatory requirements. 

Lead & develop a small team of talented formulators.

ALL ABOUT YOU

Desirable Bachelor Degree in Chemical Engineering or Chemistry (science and technology expertise)

Fully operational in Formulation Development in R&D and awareness / experience in related functions (eg Processing, Science & Technology, Packaging Development etc.)

Proven impact and experience in Formulation or Cosmetic Science in R&D, with established experiencein relevant FMCG industry

Ability to form excellent partnerships with internal & external partners, and work in multi-disciplinary, multi-cultural teams

A proven growth mindset, with the ability to spot & implement opportunities to make improvements

Strong communicator, with the ability to translate technically complex information into clear simple messages for teams & stakeholders.
