SUMMARY DESCRIPTION OF CLASSIFICATION:
Under direction of Division of Multilingual Education (DME), collaborates with team members, school staff, and stakeholders to develop content language amplifications in support of English Language Development (ELD). Designs professional development in support of Emergent Multilingual Learner?s (EML?s) attainment of grade level content language for Social Instructional Purposes, for English Language Arts, for Mathematics, for Science, and for Social Studies. Supports school-based staff and facilitates collaborative interactions among staff, caregivers, and students to promote effective, culturally sustaining instructional practices from an asset-based lens towards College and Career Readiness. Provides support to schools and content teams; assists with the monitoring and implementation of ELD programs; assists school personnel in assessment, data collection, and analysis of formal and informal data for use in monitoring the effectiveness of ELD programs. Collaborates with content teams to develop and deliver effective professional learning to a variety of audiences. PHYSICAL DEMANDS: (Special requirements such as lifting heavy objects and frequent climbing.) As required by the duties and responsibilities of the job.SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: (Frequent overtime or night work required, etc.) Occasional evening and weekend work required to meet deadlines and collect user feedback. May be required to travel between school sites.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Thorough knowledge of MCPS K-12 curriculum for all types of learners. Knowledge of Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) Strategic Plan goals, and state and national standards. Ability to use the K-12 ELD resources in support of grade-level content curricula to support teachers in the delivery of instruction for students enrolled in the ELD program. Ability to support the implementation of ELD initiatives, K-12. Knowledge of current research and trends in ELD education with special emphasis on curriculum and instruction. Proficiency in Universal Design for Learning, effective asset-based differentiation, equitable practices, and culturally sustaining pedagogy. Ability to use web and video technology to present information and encourage collaboration and effective instruction. Ability to successfully collaborate with staff, caregivers and students to reach instructional goals. Ability to analyze formal and informal assessment data to determine the instructional needs in a specified content. Excellent organizational, oral and written communication, and human relations skills. Proficiency in the WIDA 2020 Framework and deep knowledge of Proficiency Level Descriptors.

EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE:
Master's degree or equivalent from accredited college or university (pref. given to earned Master's with emphasis in ELD instruction and course work in curriculum development); certification in ELD instruction required; minimum 5 years successful classroom experience teaching EMLs, including using assessments to monitor student progress and plan instruction, and using technology to enhance instruction. Knowledge of current research, theory, and best practices in curriculum development, assessment and instruction for EMLs. Experience developing K-12 content amplifications using a functional language approach. Knowledge of culturally sustaining teaching approaches and materials. Ability to work collaboratively to edit curricular documents and assessments. Experience teaching across disciplines and with diverse populations. Successful experience developing and supporting curriculum implementation. Successful experiences in developing, coordinating, and leading engaging professional development. Applicable education, training, and experience, which provide the knowledge, abilities, and skills necessary to perform effectively in the position, may be considered.Certificate License:Meets Maryland State certification requirements in ELD.
