Summary Description:
Under direction of the principal, plans and administers the school^s library media program.In collaboration with teachers, plans and provides for students information literacy skills instruction integrated into the content areas. Provides instructional technology training to staff. Manages library media center material, facilities, and equipment. Communicates the school library media program vision and mission to administrators, staff, students, parents, and the broader community.Physical Demands:As required by the duties and responsibilities of the job.Special Requirements:Required to attend school meetings, programs and activities outside the instructional day as mandated by the MCEA agreement.

Knowledge Skills Abilities:
Thorough knowledge of MCPS Policies and Procedures for school library media programs and MCPS Administrative Regulation ITA-RA: School Library Media Program. Knowledge of effective instructional practices and understanding of the teaching/learning process. Knowledge of current instructional and research technologies and the ability to integrate these into the library media program and throughout the curriculum. Ability to work effectively with administrators, staff, students and community. Excellent oral and written communication and human relations skills.

Education Training Experience:
Master^s degree from an accredited college or university in school library media and course work in curriculum and special education. Completion of a practicum or two years of successful teaching or two years of successful media-related experience.Certificate License:Meets Maryland state certification requirements for School Library Media Specialist.
