Gas Technician

ESG Operations, an Inframark Company, is hiring a Gas Technician to join our team in Tifton, GA that is responsible for the operations and maintenance of the municipal natural gas system.  You would perform entry-level tasks that support natural gas distribution and service. We would ask you to locate and painting meters; conduct basic leak investigations; maintenance tasks; and perform general labor. We are looking for customer-service oriented candidates with experience working with mechanical and electrical systems.

Duties and responsibilities

Perform installation, maintenance and repairs for natural gas servicesWork outside in all weather, both above ground and below groundLocate natural gas linesPerform simple sniff tests to determine leaksMaintain records associated with service and repair functionsRead and interpret meters and gauges to ensure proper function; repair or replace as needed; assist in turning gas service on and offCarry out landscape maintenance and traffic control tasksAttend safety classes, reinforce and comply with company safety policiesWork harmoniously with ESG employees and the public and comply with ESG policies

Qualifications

Requires high school diploma, GED and training equivalent to the satisfactory completion of specialized training or relevant experience. Must have a valid state driver’s license and meet minimum driving standards.

Knowledge of:

Working knowledge of HVAC and plumbing codes, as applied to service and installation of appliances.Working knowledge of electronics and its application to control circuits and systems.Working knowledge of HVAC equipment, the installation and service of appliances, venting systems, gas burning equipment and metering and regulating systems.Problem Solving – identifying and resolving problems in a timely manner, gathering and analyzing information skillfully, developing alternative solutionsTaking responsibility for own actions, keeping commitmentsCommitting to long hours of work when necessary to reach goalsConsistency in attendance and punctuality

Working conditions

While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be exposed to extreme heat and/or cold, wet or humid conditions, bright and/or dim light, dust or pollen, intense noise levels, vibration, fumes or noxious odors. All required safety standards shall be adhered to in order to mitigate risk from moving mechanical parts, electrical shock, heights, blood-borne pathogens, traffic, animals and wildlife, toxic or caustic chemicals, and other identified hazards.

Physical requirements

This position requires frequent standing, kneeling, bending and climbing. The employee must be able to use hands to operate and manipulate tools and equipment. This position requires very heavy physical exertion including the ability to lift over 50 pounds and exert over 100 pounds of force on a regular basis.

The employee must be willing to work non-standard and overtime hours as required.

The position requires normal visual acuity and field of vision, hearing, and depth perception.
