Job Description:



This position would be aligned to the USPS Office of Chief Information

Officer (CIO) Architecture, Strategy, & Innovation (CASI). The position

is under the Technology & Infrastructure Innovation Program which

requires a Kafka (SME) to support the team with analysis to integrate

new Kafka cluster and event stream requirements into established

large-scale, production enterprise architectures. Conduct design and

architecture assessments and provide written recommendations for

integrating Kafka event streams within an application domain or

enterprise event brokering. Additionally, help troubleshoot production

Kafka event streams and software integration issues as top tier internal

support, including review of performance issues and proposing

resolutions.



HOW A GCP CLOUD SME WILL MAKE AN IMPACT:



- Leads cultural change for cloud adoption. Actively participates in

the development and socialization of Infrastructure Solution

roadmaps related to public cloud offerings.



- Creates and communicates cloud policies, procedures, standards,

design patterns, and reference architectures that define repeatable

solutions.



- Identifies training and development needs required to support

cloud-based solutions standards; develops materials for training and

awareness and delivers messages to the intended audience.



- Interfaces with vendors to ensure standard architectures are adhered

to and implemented for projects within a specific technology area.



- Provides technical direction to management and systems professionals

engaged in the analysis, design, development, implementation and

maintenance of business information systems.



- Ensures alignment of infrastructure and application solution design

to the overall architecture for Enterprise applications and

compliance with defined technology standards, policies, processes

and best industry practices.



- Researches and analyzes the technology industry and market trends

relating to cloud technologies to determine potential impact upon

the IT enterprise; makes recommendations to capitalize on trends and

industry best practice.



- Ensures the architecture governance structure is applied in a

defined solutions area based on business and IT organization

strategies.



- Ensures publication and update of solution standards pertaining to

cloud hosted solutions and manages individual projects related to

the release and propagation of standards across IT.



- Provides leadership and technical assistance as an IT SWAT team

member to management and systems professionals engaged in problem

solving regarding the analysis, design, development, implementation

and maintenance of business information systems.



- Demonstrated ability to research, analyze, and evaluate existing and

proposed business systems and procedures, develop requirements and

identify Google cloud centric system solutions in detailed

measurable terms that achieve optimum performance and cost

effectiveness.



- Experience leading the design, development and deployment of

performant cloud business software, in particular Google cloud, at

scale or current hands-on technology infrastructure, network,

compute, storage, and virtualization experience.



- Ability to integrate cloud services, in particular on Google cloud,

with other SaaS or on-premise technologies from leading vendor

products Microsoft, IBM, Oracle, HP, Linux, SAP, etc.



- Experience with IT compliance and risk management requirements in a

regulated environment such as SOX and PCI for cloud applications, in

particular on Google cloud.



- Ability to automate complex tasks, in particular on Google cloud,

using scripting or coding skills, or similar current automation

tools (e.g., shell, Python, Ruby, PowerShell, Ansible, Terraform,

CloudFormation, Chef, or Puppet).



- Knowledge of information systems enterprise-wide architecture

including knowledge of a wide range of foundational technology such

as cloud services, servers and storage, virtualization, high

availability, performance analysis and management, and enterprise

infrastructure monitoring for highly available web-scale systems.



WHAT YOU’LL NEED TO SUCCEED:



Required Experience:



- 13+ years of hands-on experience



Education:



- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information technology, or

related field or equivalent experience – not required.



Required skills:



- Ability to communicate, orally and in writing, sufficient to develop

and present management briefings; provide written and/or verbal

guidance on technical issues; and prepare/present recommendations

and reports.



- Using design patterns for building scalable and maintainable

applications/solutions.



- Clearly document code, models, and technical solutions.



- Expert knowledge of Google cloud services and have an Active Google

Cloud Associate or Professional certification.



- Knowledge of industry developments, business information systems and

practices, development methods, procedures, standards, techniques,

Agile application life cycle, test driven development, continuous

integration of code development, and current cloud technologies, in

particular Google cloud.



- Continuous learning and adaptability in a very large IT

organization.



- Communicating complex technical concepts to both technical and

executive stakeholders.



- Troubleshooting software and technical implementations in

large-scale enterprise ecosystems.



- Understanding of concepts like CI/CD, containerization, and

deployment strategies for Kafka components in large-scale production

environments.



- Querying and managing data in both SQL and NoSQL databases.



- Proficiency in creating:



- Generative AI and prompt engineering.



- Technical diagrams with products like Microsoft Visio or

Draw.io.



- Technical design and architecture documents in Microsoft Word.



- Business and technical presentations in Microsoft PowerPoint.



- Data representations, charts and reports in tools such as

Microsoft’s Excel worksheets and Power BI.

Security Clearance Level:



- Must be able to obtain and maintain a Public Trust and successfully

pass a thorough Government background screening process requiring

the completion of detailed forms and fingerprinting



- This position has a U.S. residency requirement. The USPS security

clearance process requires the selected candidate to have resided in

the U.S. (including U.S. Territories) for the last five years as

follows: U.S. Citizens cannot have left the U.S. (including U.S.

Territories) for longer than 6 months consecutively in the last 3

years (unless they meet certain exceptions). Non-U.S. Citizens

cannot have left the U.S. (including U.S. Territories) for longer

than 90 days consecutively in the last 3 years.
