General Summary

This position is responsible for managing all aspects of growth and operations for the Granite Construction Supply (GCS) business. This responsibility includes controlling all aspects of accounting, administrative, business related processes and field related responsibilities for GCS operations as a store front business. Granite Construction Supply provides equipment rentals, construction equipment/ supply sales and delivery/ purchasing services, in addition to any applicable bolt-on businesses, internally for Granite and externally to outside customers in a cost-effective manner consistent with Granite’s standards and core values. This position also requires an in-depth understanding of the IT and business systems that support GCS.

Essential Job Accountabilities

Develop, update and periodically review a strategic plan for the GCS operation consistent with the branch strategic plan. In conjunction with the Branch Manager and/or Business Manager, develop annual budgets and business plan each year detailing goals to be achieved, including business development plans for external sales.Operating GCS as a profit center; expected revenues and profits being defined by developing annual business plans and budget expectations that reflect current backlog, customer base and market conditions.Managing GCS rental & sales inventory to minimize loss, cost, safety hazards and damage while maximizing profitability, economic order quantities and storage capacity.Managing GCS staff and vehicles to maximize productivity and support for customers, while maintaining a cost-effective general (overhead) budget to remain competitive in area market.Maintaining a safe, environmentally responsible and EEO compliant workplace for GCS employees and customers. Expected to support Safety matrix requirements. Develop & mentor GCS employees to encourage proper development of team members.Providing accurate and timely billings for all customers (internal and external), including accountability for accuracy and validity of all transactions as required. Responsible for accuracy & oversight of all A/R, cash handling and credit card reconciliation functions. Ensuring accurate accrual & accounting of all sales & use tax requirements as they relate to GCS purchases and sales, maintaining proper resale status.Maintaining system integrity by ensuring periodic physical or cycle counts on inventory, utilizing proper purchasing practices to track spending, auditing billing/ tax information, maintaining current insurance information for external customers, ensuring fair and accurate bidding practices and reconciling billings from suppliers to ensure proper pricing and accurate product counts.Maintaining open line of communication between departments, customers and other branches throughout Granite to remain aware of changing customer needs, improved purchasing, direct buying/wholesale, utilization opportunities and safety concerns.May be expected to provide support for other locations within Granite and Granite’s wholly owned subsidiaries as it relates to maximizing inventory utilization, reducing costs, etc.Expected to interact with public and community service organizations on behalf of Granite and GCS, as needed to promote growth & development of external business. Managing equipment donations for local charities and community events are an annual resource allocation function performed by GCS.

Education

High school diploma required; Bachelor’s Degree preferred.


Work Experience

At least 2+ years' experience managing a rental and/ or retail supply operation

Experience with construction equipment, logistics/ warehousing, rental equipment management and/or field operations is preferred

Knowledge, skills, and abilities

General understanding of Accounting, Procurement, Sales/Marketing, HR, Warehousing/ Receiving, Inventory Control and software tools including (but not limited to) MS Office and Windows-Based Database tools (i.e. Access), TrakQuip, E1, SharePointBasic knowledge of Granite’s policies and procedures.Knowledge of construction equipment and/or field operations is preferred.Requires problem-solving capabilities.Strong & timely communication, teamwork and customer service focus required.Strong financial acumen and ability to analyze financial spreadsheets monthly to forecast and pivot focus and business direction as needed.

The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 80 pounds. Projects with joint-venture agreements (JVs), benefits will be governed by those agreements. For positions covered by a Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBAs), the benefits will be governed by the applicable CBA. 

Benefits may vary for positions located outside of the continental United States. 

Base Hourly Wage Range :Hourly: $32.47 $48.70

Pay may vary based on relevant experience, skills, location, and education among other factors.  Collective Bargaining Agreements will govern as applicable.
