General Accountant

Pay Range:

$29.97 - $38.62

Independently performs specific accounting functions requiring the application of fund accounting principles and practices. Prepares complex financial grant accounting data and functions. Maintains general ledger and/or update budgets, conducts other financial studies and analyses, develops reports, and reconciles subsidiary systems to General Ledger.

Key Essential Functions and Accountabilities of the Job

Grant Accounting and Reporting to External Agencies

Prepares complex, detailed monthly, quarterly, and closeout financial reports for external funding agencies.

Reconciles grant budgets to actual expenditures, prepares, and posts necessary adjusting journal entries.

Ensures grants are not overspent.

Complies with reporting requirements at the end of the grant period.

Independently reviews funding agency financial reporting requirements to gain a thorough understanding of requirements.

Communicates with funding agencies regarding requirements when necessary and works with grant managers to ensure compliance.

General Ledger Integrity Review and Management Reporting

Analyzes general ledger at the end of each month and prepares/posts adjusting journal entries.

Reviews complex financial data.

Assists in preparation of comprehensive financial reports for management.

Advises managers and administrative staff on the financial status of programs and individual accounts as necessary.

Meets monthly reporting deadlines.

Ensures accuracy and completeness of general ledger.

Communicates with other Finance Department and Business Operations staff to coordinate receipt of financial information necessary to close monthly general ledger in a timely manner.

Adheres to strict deadlines for closing and generating reports for management.

Assisting with Annual External Financial Statement Audit

Prepares Schedule of Federal Financial Assistance and/or Schedule of State Financial Assistance Single Audits.

Ensures Consortium complies with Circulars (A-133, etc.) requirements.

Coordinates with auditors to clear and audit exceptions.

Prepares supplemental schedules and reconciliations on an as-needed basis during audit.

Adheres to audit deadlines to ensure timely issuance of annual audited financial statement.

Special Financial Accounting Projects

Assists Senior Accountant with complicated and difficult projects requiring research.

Works independently to solve complex financial problems

Assists manager in completion of the HRSA Uniform Data System annual report (Table BA, 9E, etc.) requirements by the deadline to ensure future funding.

Education, Certifications, and Licenses Required

Bachelors of Science in Business with emphasis in accounting or equivalent field.Relevant experience may be exchanged on a year-for-year basis in lieu of degree

Experience Required

3 years of experience in accounting, including preparation of federal and state grant reports and preparation of State and Federal Single Audit schedules

Knowledge of

Intermediate fund accountingAnnual audit requirementGenerally Accepted Auditing Standards (GAAS)
