General Control Technician

Overview

Perform Maintenance, Repairs, programming, and preventive Maintenance on all makes models of backup Generators, Automatic transfer switches. Perform work on all makes and model engine and ATS switches.

Responsibilities

Perform Daily, weekly Monthly run sheets need performed Each Day.

Perform Pm services on various Generators each month. Perform Pm on Various Automatic transfer switches.

Load testing Generators (once year).

Perform Trouble shooting, repairs, Breakdowns on Generators, And ATS switches.

Perform ECM replacements and Programing work to install ECM, Injector replacement.

Perform Daily Paperwork associated with job performed.

Get Parts list and Estimate together for Job that Repairs Are needed.

Transfer switch programing and Screen Replacements.

Megger testing (once year).

Read wire diagrams and wire schematics.

Perform Generator control work and Programing.

Install new Control systems for Generator and ATS switches.

Emissions testing (with Analyzer) Once year.

Accountable For:

Base/Stationary Generators and Associated Automatic transfer switch.

Knowledge, Skill, And Abilities:

Basic Electricity training/Certifications or Years of Experience.

Basic Engine training/Certifications or Years of Experience.

Generator fundamentals training/Certifications or Years of Experience.

Applied Failure analyses training/Certifications or Years of Experience.

Computer programing for ATS, Cat ET,Cummins, John deer, PSI, Company computer programs for reprograming ECM,Controller's and ATS/Certifications Required.

Electric power classes Training 1,2,3 Certifications or Years of Experience.

ATS,Switch Gear/certifications Or Years of Experience.

Acert Engine,And mechanical,HUI Engine systems.

Thermo imaging.

Gaseous Engines I Natural gas, Lp/Certifications.

Service Tech workbench or related to Mechanical and Electronic fuel systems.

Qualifications

Engine:

Basic understanding of Diesel and Natural Gas Engine.

Repair and Rebuild Engine of different makes, size and models.

Computer testing and diagnostics.

Programing of ECMs and Injector Calibration on different Engines.

Perform applied failure analyst on components that fail.

Understand Fuel types and how to set them up.

How to perform overhead Checks on Diesel and natural gas engine.

Know the basic use of hand tools.

Have basic troubleshooting skills on engines.

Generators:

Have at least 2 years' Experience or Training on such Equipment/ Years of Experience.

Understand Fundamentals of generators.

Maintenance and useof service tools.

Perform NFPA 110 standards Checks on Generator sets life safety and insure all performs as expected and or manufactures standard.

Use of ladder logic and one-line diagrams.

Programing control braker.

Knowing the use of Voltage meter 480 volt.

How to properly setup Generator for load and unload response.

basic electricity skills.

Have working knowledge of generator controls.

Have computer skills such as the use excel, word, outlook or Email.

How to use software for programing ECM and Generator Controllers.

Have basic trouble shooting skills on Generator end.

Knowledge and understanding of restarting Generator sets to set voltages 120,240,480.

Have working knowledge of Voltage regulators.

Able to adjust generator controllers and system set up.

Hook up and load bank Generator system According to NFPA 110.

Understanding of Voltage droop and Voltage Gain.

Set up voltage Regulators and tuning of the system.

Identify Common components of generator.

Working with medium voltage Generators.

ATS or Automatic transfer switches:

Knowledge and understanding of paralleling units and switchgear Systems.

Knowledge of disassembly and assembly of transfer switch mechanisms.

Diagnostics and trouble shooting skills of live circuitry voltages.

Have the understanding knowledge of both AC and De voltages.

Knowledge of Programable Logic controller system set up.

How to identify types of ATS/name plates and sizes of ATS.

How to read and understand Wiring diagrams.

Know how to perform General Maintenance on ATS switches.

Perform ATS testing with load and no-load settings with utility outage.

Understand Operations of ATS system.

Perform thermographic testing on ATS.

How to identify the controls for ATS.

Know how to proper program ATS for Generator Control during power loss and return.

Have proper trainingon ATS and or at least 2 years' experience Programing and trouble shooting.
