General Summary

The General Foreman will be responsible for supervising and coordinating all on-site activities, ensuring that construction projects are completed safely, efficiently, and to the highest standards. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in heavy civil construction, strong leadership skills, and a proven ability to manage multiple teams and projects simultaneously.

Essential Job Accountabilities

Coordinating daily tasks according to priorities and plans, making changes when necessary due to weather, supply, delivery and personnel

Delegating individual responsibilities and projects to crew members and contractors

Recruiting, hiring, training, managing and mentoring employees and contractors

Providing adequate resources and staffing to meet project schedules, laws, regulations, best practices and safety needs

Emphasizing safe use of tools, machinery and equipment while providing training on safety gear, helmets and procedures

Developing and managing project budgets and quality standards for all sites

Resolving conflicts or miscommunications quickly and amicably

Regularly reporting project status to supervisors, site engineers and other officials

Education

High School Diploma, GED or equivalent years of experience

Work Experience

Appropriate training and experience required

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Customer-service skills to communicate with inspectors and administration to develop a positive working relationship.

Decision-making skills for selecting personnel and subcontractors for specific tasks and jobs to meet deadlines and budgets.

Leadership skills for effectively delegating tasks to workers.

Speaking skills for providing clear orders, explaining complex information to clients and construction workers and discussing technical details 

Technical skills for interpreting construction methods and technologies along with contracts and technical drawings.

Time-management skills to meet deadlines and ensuring construction phases are completed on time so that the next phase can start.

Writing skills for writing budgets, proposals and plans along with documenting work progress for clients and others involved.


Physically, working foremen must be able to:

Work easily and skillfully with hands

Climb and maintain balance on ladders and scaffolds

See well (naturally or with correction) and distinguish colors

Reach for, handle, and grasp wires and hand tools

Bend, crouch, and work in small places

Lift and carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds.

Projects with joint-venture agreements (JVs), benefits will be governed by those agreements. For positions covered by a Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBAs), the benefits will be governed by the applicable CBA. 

Benefits may vary for positions located outside of the continental United States. 

Base Hourly Wage Range :Hourly: $14.70 $75.00

Pay may vary based on relevant experience, skills, location, and education among other factors.  Collective Bargaining Agreements will govern as applicable.
