General Laborer- AK Remote

Overview:

Seasonal work in support of various environmental clean-up projects at remote north-slope locations,  extreme schedule, starting in January, ending in April. Some of the projects will be Davis-Bacon or Title 36 pay rates, some will not. Sleigh Camp housing, meals, bath, laundry will be provided. Transportation to the project site from Anchorage, Fairbanks, or the North Slope will be provided.

 Primary Responsibilities:

Provide general labor support as the project requires. Demolition of buildings, site clean-up, manual material handling. Operate a variety of hand and power tools. Coordinate with and work around heavy equipment operations. Set up and maintain job site safety equipment. Perform daily tasks in a safe and workman like manner in accordance with company policies. Other related duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

There are no supervisory responsibilities associated with this position.

Education and/or Experience:

High school diploma or GED preferred. North Slope Training Cooperative (NSTC) current is a plus. Experience working with safety equipment preferred (fall protection, eye protection, hearing protection, insect protection, etc.). Experience using power tools preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Willingness and ability to perform manual work following verbal and written instructions.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:

Current Driver’s License preferred, but not required

40 Hour Hazwopper certificate required for some of the projects.

Confined space certificate required for some of the projects.

Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to be able to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls; operate vehicles and tools, reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance; stoop; kneel; talk or hear; taste or smell. The employee must occasionally lift and or move up to 60 pounds for 50 feet. Job requires the ability to perform task on all areas and aspects of construction project. Must be able to climb ladders for heights up to 60 feet and crawl for distances of 50 feet.

Work Environment:

Work location is in rural northern Alaska and may include exposure to extreme temperatures. Some of the projects may be in North Slope villages, some of the projects will be at remote camp locations. Travel to the job site by small plane. The work will be outdoors during the Arctic Spring and Summer (may extend into Fall) anticipate working outdoors in extreme cold, high winds, rain or snow, and occasional mosquito swarms. Work may be performed near moving mechanical parts and/or vibration. Work may be required in areas with high noise levels, fumes or airborne particles, or electrical shock hazards.

Arctic Gear:

Operators must supply their own personal arctic gear (Boots, Jacket, Parka, Bibs or Suit adequate to work in the extreme cold that reaches ambient -50° F or more at times and wind chill down to -80°F or more.  

Standard PPE* provided by OOS: Green Ape work gloves with liners, hearing protection, safety glasses, fall protection, hard hats with liners etc. Extra facemasks are also on hand in the event of a lost or damaged mask. 

Special PPE* is provided by OOS depending on the work being performed.

Examples: Culinary gloves, hair nets, face mask for cooks and cleaning staff, Fire coat & Protective Visor for Incinerator operation and Insulated rubber gloves for full time fuelers etc.
