Position Summary

The GM Brazil is accountable for the overall success of the Brazil market:

To deliver company financial objectives through strong management of the business, with a high level of integrity, compliance, as well as employee engagement.

To provide inspirational and strategic leadership, as well as overall direction for the commercial activities of the business.

To drive continued high growth in line with the short & long term strategic plan: ensuring speed of approved access to patients.

To be visible and active in shaping the industry with external stakeholders (key customers, politicians, department of health, industry association, advocacy groups, etc.)

To maximize business profitability (pre-tax) by managing all aspects of the business.

Key Responsibilities

Strategy and Execution:

Assumes full P&L responsibility for Brazil.

Oversees all functions including regulatory, medical, RCO, marketing, sales, finance, HR and IT.

Maps the evolving landscape and adapts the strategy to maximize all opportunities for growth.

Leads the development and execution of customer-focused strategy that drives innovation, generates superior short-term and long-term performance through effective resource allocation. Designing and implementing new innovative business models and solutions.

Actively contributes to shaping the environment and building key relationships in all relevant areas.

Grow the BMS portfolio of products, at various stages within product life cycle, including launch experience in a market or cluster.   

Defines the appropriate organizational Culture vision, in line with BMS’, and enables and empowers the local BMS team to implement it. 

Leadership & Matrix Alignment

Demonstrates the business ethics and judgment to enforce internal controls to comply with the company’s policies and procedures and relentlessly maintains and develops a compelling culture of compliance.

Builds and develops a strong team with a cohesive culture, fosters and drives engagement across all functions.

Stakeholder Engagement & Communication:

Builds and manages relationships with internal stakeholders in local, regional and global commercial and matrix teams.

Manages integration points and outbound/inbound communications with key stakeholders across all BMS enabling function/commercial areas to ensure alignment.

Actively contributes to shaping the industry, external environment and building key relationship in all relevant area.

Represents BMS interests with important external stakeholders as appropriate and aligned with corporate direction, e.g. government and regulatory officials, industry and industrial associations, and the media. 

Ensures effective management of the relationship with external third parties.  Maintains company’s rights under the contractual relationship and complies with contracts in conduct of operations. 

Strengthens and improves the image of BMS and the pharmaceutical/health care industry. 

Qualifications & Experience

Successful general management / sales & marketing track record for a significant pharmaceutical business and/or geography.

Holistic experience within the healthcare industry, with functional expertise across commercial and non- commercial roles.

Ability to set and implement the strategy related to managing a successful business.

Successful track record of driving aggressive growth, managing a team with P&L responsibilities, demonstrating tangible and significant business impact.

High standard of Integrity and Compliance to meet global and local requirement while driving the business growth.

Ability to manage a team successfully, with direct and indirect reports, by applying the right level of management focus, control and support and ensuring commitment and passion. Experience and track record of both coaching individuals as well as leading teams.

Ability to formulate and communicate outstanding strategic thinking in a highly complex environment.

Proven success of change and innovation management combined with the right sense of priority, focus and results.

Achievement to have a strong impact on the environment internally and externally.

Excellent leadership skills with a strong ability to build, motivate and develop a strongly competent and diverse team.

Ability to lead efficiently in a highly matrix environment.

Fluent in Portuguese with the ability to effectively engage with Portuguese-speaking stakeholders.

Execution Skills: Demonstrated success in driving execution of key priorities and plans through a global matrix organization by establishing expectations for work and contingency plans and metrics, setting high standards and holding team members accountable for results, behaviors and continuous improvement.
