General Manager, Data and AI Architecture

The General Manager, Data & AI Architecture leads a team of technical architects to build the vision for the Enterprise Data & AI ecosystem to drive business strategy, innovation, improvements and deliver data products. This role will lead our full-stack data architecture strategy and implementation. They will drive our modernization efforts to ensure our data platforms, pipelines, machine learning and analytics are ready to power the next phase of growth. They will work closely with senior leadership, enterprise architecture, data engineering, data science, data products teams to design, build, and deploy data & AI solutions that meet the growing analytical needs of our organization. Responsibilities include but not limited to: + Design and develop the blueprint of our future state data ecosystem to efficiently and cost effectively address various data needs across the business. + Deliver data platforms that can operate at a massive scale, build on cloud native technologies + Lead the development of best practices and design patterns for architecture, engineering, and analytics development, staying at the forefront of industry trends and continuously refining our processes to ensure the highest-quality, innovative, and efficient solutions. + Build software across our entire cutting-edge data platform, including event driven data processing, storage, and serving through scalable and highly available APIs, with awesome cutting-edge technologies. + Define the target architecture for AI including approach for models, training/fine tuning, RAG, embeddings, workbench, AI platform and compute + Change how we think, act, and utilize our data by performing exploratory and quantitative analytics, data science, and discovery. + Think of new ways to help make our data platform more scalable, resilient and reliable and then work across our team to put your ideas into action. + Addressing data science needs through robust machine learning platforms incorporating MLOps techniques + Help us stay ahead of the curve by working closely with data engineers, stream processing specialists, API developers, our DataOps team, and analysts to design systems which can scale elastically in ways which make other groups jealous. + Work closely with data analysts and business stake holders to make data easily accessible and understandable to them. + Ensure data quality by implementing re-usable data quality frameworks. + Work closely with various other data engineering teams to roll out new capabilities. + Build process and tools to maintain Machine Learning pipelines in production. + Develop and enforce data engineering, security, data quality standards through automation. + Recruit and lead a team of data experts. Hire the best, and be mindful of diversity in all forms as there are multiple ways to be the best. Cultivate potential within the team, and provide a pathway for people to succeed from entry level all the way to the most senior technologists. + Be responsible for cloud cost and improving efficiency. + Keep data accessible and secure. Partner with security and compliance to design systems using modern technologies to make system and user access as effortless as possible within the needs to protect content, user privacy, and integrity. + Understand and respond to engineering needs for a good portfolio of fit-for-purpose database technologies, but don’t sacrifice operability, scale, reliability, or resource fungibility across the organization. Manage the lifecycle of old and new tech. + Build documentation, automation, repeatable processes, operational tooling, and a robust suite of test capabilities to validate deployments, nonfunctional requirements, resiliency, and scale. What you need to succeed (minimum qualifications) + Bachelor’s degree in Science, Statistics, Engineering, Business Administration or similar field of study + 15+ years of experience building and scaling data platforms + 5+ years of experience with cloud data technologies including AWS, Glue, Airflow + Expert in one or modern data replication and data integration tools (for example AWS DMS, etc.) + Expert in one or more modern data lake and data warehouse tools (for example Teradata, Redshift, Snowflake, etc.) + Expert in one or more modern advanced analytics tools (for example Spark, Databricks, etc.) + Deep understanding of Large Language Models (LLMs) and Generative AI methodologies like RAG, Vector Stores + Experience with MLOps with tooling such as MLflow + Passion for working with data and deriving insights to answer business questions that drive actions and decision-making + Experience with programming languages – SQL, Python + Experience leveraging creative analytics techniques and output to tell a story to drive business decisions + Champions the capabilities and benefits of analytical data assets. Partner effectively across departments and stakeholders + Solid business acumen, and critical problem-solving ability, with a capacity for strategic thinking + Experience with business intelligence, dashboard and data visualization tools such as Tableau, PowerBI, Quicksight + Deep understanding of API connectivity and data streaming architecture + Exceptional leadership qualities with a track record of mentoring high-performing teams + Comfort level with ambiguity and ability to manage multiple projects at the same time What will give you a competitive edge (preferred qualifications) + Advanced degree in Science, Statistics,Engineering, Business Administration or similar field of study + Airline Industry experience preferred Benefits and Perks to Help You Keep Climbing Our culture is rooted in a shared dedication to living our values – Care, Integrity, Resilience and Servant Leadership – every day, in everything we do.
