Overview JOB SUMMARY: General Manager oversees all operations of Kantishna Roadhouse, providing vision and leadership to ensure alignment with Doyon’s mission. This role is responsible for achieving subsidiary objectives by developing and implementing plans, budgets, and controls. The General Manager is responsible for financial performance, enhancing guest satisfaction, staff development, and achieving shareholder hire goals. LOCATION: Fairbanks or Anchorage / Kantishna Roadhouse Responsibilities ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Operations Performs all necessary supervisory functions to manage personnel effectively and efficiently. Responsible for recruiting, selecting, orienting, training, coaching, counseling, appraising, developing and disciplining managers, supervisors, and staff. Sets and monitors realistic company goals to ensure that Doyon’s shareholder hire goals are achieved and exceeded. Acts as liaison with local, state, and federal entities such as the National Park Service and Denali National Park Concessions Department. Represents the company at industry related committees, councils, conventions, shows and business events. Maintains quality guest services by establishing and enforcing high standards of operation. Oversees organization and maintenance of guest transports and accommodations. Oversees and ensures high safety standards, quality control standards, and regulatory compliance; and always ensures good housekeeping of property and equipment. Prepares monthly, quarterly, and annual reports as required; including, but not limited to, the monthly Doyon President’s Report and National Park Service reports. Effectively communicates on an on-going basis with Doyon Management, staff, and shareholders to contribute to the team efforts of the Doyon Family of Companies. Marketing Develops and oversee sales and marketing strategies for the purpose of promoting the Kantishna Roadhouse and the Kantishna Wilderness Trails as a premier tourist destination. Oversees all marketing aspects and identifies and seeks out future potential business for the company while maintaining relationships with current companies and key agents to increase product visibility and enhance the company’s positive image. Analyzes the market and refocuses business plans in response to market changes. Conducts research to identify industry development opportunities and prepares proposals to grow the company to the next level. Collaborate with other tourism businesses under the parent company to enhance guest experiences and drive cross-promotional opportunities. Negotiates agreements and competitive rates with travel agents and companies. Builds the company image by collaborating with customers, community organizations, employees, and the National Park Service; and enforcing ethical business practices. Financial Oversight Explores income producing and cost reduction opportunities and prepares annual budgets and forecasts. Achieves sales and profit targets by exercising close control of overhead and operating expenses. Provides vision and leadership in long-range fiscal planning. OTHER FUNCTIONS: Participates in General Manager’s meetings, Doyon’s Annual Shareholders Meeting, and all other corporation meetings and planning sessions as required. Stays current with local, state, and federal politics and politicians, major world events, and the global economic climate. Works with the Alaska Tourism Industry Association to strategically market the State of Alaska as a tourism destination to increase visitation to Alaska year-round. Other duties as assigned. SUPERVISION: This position is responsible for hiring, training and discipline of all staff, both year-round and seasonal. Qualifications REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor’s Degree in Hotel/Restaurant Management or Business is preferred, though an equivalent of education and/or experience may be considered. Minimum of 5 years of experience in business management, including planning and financial oversight. Minimum of 5 years of experience in personnel management. Minimum of 3 years of related hospitality management experience. Minimum of 3 years working with a board of directors. Class B Driver’s License required. Computer literate with proficiency in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Property Management Systems (PMS) and Point-of-Sale Systems (POS). PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Certified Food Manager Certification Training for Alcohol Professionals (TAP) certification First Aid and CPR Commercial Driver’s License with passenger and air brake endorsements WORKING CONDITIONS: Off-season (late Sept – mid-May): Most work is performed in an office setting in Anchorage or Fairbanks. Operational season (late May – mid-September): Travel to and work in Kantishna, Alaska, with room and board provided. WORKING ENVIRONMENT: The majority of the work is performed in an office setting. PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Regularly required to stand; walk, use hands, and reach with hands and arms; sit; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
