SUMMARY: A general mechanical engineer applies knowledge of engineering principles required to install, conduct routine preventive maintenance on highly sophisticated, complex industrial production machinery, analyze performance results, repair, and maintain such machinery and equipment in a 675,000 square foot turkey processing facility processing over 17 million turkeys each year under the direction of one or more engineers.

\n

·         Must achieve Minimum Effectiveness Level (MEL) within 3 years of Hire Date.

\n

·         Monitor equipment, diagnose, troubleshoot, and perform timely repairs, routine and preventive maintenance on various mechanical equipment in the facility.

\n

·         Proficiently use a variety of common hand and power tools and precision instruments required for the maintenance of the facility’s equipment and machinery.

\n

·         Interpret work orders and specifications to determine if machines and equipment require replacement, repair, or general maintenance.

\n

·         Carry out routine inspections of equipment and systems; inspect and perform maintenance and engineering tasks and actions following established standard operating procedures and checklists.

\n

·         Recognize, diagnose mechanical problems, and determine corrective action by interpreting complex blueprints, piping, sketches, schematics, and wiring diagrams.

\n

·         Develop a general understanding of the mechanical systems required to operate the facility.

\n

·             Follow and adhere to food and workplace safety policies and procedures established by Butterball, LLC

\n

·              Communicate, at a high level, with plant operations to ensure the machinery and equipment operate safely and efficiently.

\n

·             Ability to work independently to make decisions under the direct supervision of a professional in the field.

\n

·         Ability to multi-task and meet deadlines in a time sensitive environment.

\n

·         Ability to direct clearly and concisely with excellent verbal and written communication skills.

\n

·         Any other duties assigned at management’s discretion.

\n

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

\n

o   Minimum of two years of experience as a mechanical technician in a related industry

\n

o   Extensive knowledge of mechanical designs, installations, maintenance and repairs

\n

o   Ability to solve problems by using theorical knowledge in the field of discipline and critical thinking skills

\n

o   Basic computer skills

\n

o   Bachelor’s Degree in related field

\n

 

\n

LANGUAGE SKILLS: Able to read, write and comprehend simple instructions, and work orders in the English language preferred. Bilingual ability in both spoken and written Spanish and English is preferred, but not required. 

\n

 

\n

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. Must be able to work with all types of electrical equipment and tools.

\n

 

\n

WORK ENVIRONMENT: While performing the duties of this job, the employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts and in outside weather conditions and is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, risk of electrical shock and vibration.  The duties of this job requires a person to stoop, bend, work off of knees, climb ladders and work in high areas up to 130 feet, work in dark areas and work in confined spaces after trained to do so. Must be able to climb ladder and wear fall protection as necessary. The noise level in the work environment is occasionally loud.

NORMAL WORK HOURS:  The hours and days of work are established by departmental needs and at the discretion of management.  Overtime and changes in schedule will be required as special circumstance arise.
