Position Summary 

Plant McIntosh anticipates the need to seek highly skilled multidiscipline candidates for a General Plant Operator (GPO) position to operate & maintain our combined cycle and/or combustion turbine power plants in Rincon, GA. The duties of a General Plant Operator include operating, monitoring, troubleshooting, and repairing the plant’s electrical, instrumentation and mechanical power plant equipment related to the operation of a combined cycle and/or a combustion turbine power plant.  This position helps maintain plant maintenance records in a computer-based work order system, Maximo and performs various other duties that are expected; these include a plant maintenance rotation, system ownership assignment and various other tasks associated with operations and maintenance.  This posting is intended to identify an available and qualified pool of candidates who may be considered during the next hiring cycle.

Education

 HS Graduate or Equivalent 2-Year College/Technical Degree or Equivalent Military Training preferred

 

 Job Experience 

 Combustion turbine, combined cycle, or fossil steam boiler-turbine, experience is desired. Previous operations experience desired.  Industrial maintenance and troubleshooting required, five or more years desired. Experience in industrial electrical/mechanical/I&C or certified training desired.

 

  Job Requirements

 Ability to perform thorough and effective operator rounds, evaluate equipment conditions, heat rate losses, and any potential hazards.  Write condition reports for any noted deficiencies. Must be able to learn how to independently operate a combined cycle and/or combustion turbine plant and communicate effectively with plant stakeholders.  This includes following procedures and checklists for unit start-up and shutdowns. Define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to apply principles of logical thinking and deal with situations that are countered. Strong mechanical and electric aptitude and a demonstrated ability to troubleshoot and repair electrical and mechanical equipment are required. Excellent communication and problem-solving skills are required. Must be able to work with minimal supervision and acquire basic computer skills. Work with other departments for the successful execution of scheduled work and planned outages by supporting planning and scheduling activities.  This includes assisting with work scope identification through system walk downs and evaluations. Maintain proper documentation for assigned system (inspection reports, outage reports, equipment specifications, etc.) Must be able to work in difficult environments including confined spaces, extreme hot and cold temperatures, indoors and outdoors, around loud noise and locations accessible only via vertical ladders or over uneven spaces, cat walks, climbing high elevations up to 100 feet or working on grated surfaces/platforms. Must perform duties wearing personal protective equipment (PPE) which may include:  safety glasses, hard hats, respirator, dust mask, steel toe shoes, gloves and hearing protection.

Must be able to support a 24/7 shift schedule, including overtime, holiday, and back shift work. Excellent communication and problem-solving skills, team player. Must be able to handle complex, pressure situations and be adaptable to a changing work environment. Must be a self-starter, highly motivated, and able to organize work with minimal supervision. Must be able to pass the pre-employment testing: GPO 2.0 Test *

This is a covered role. The starting salary will be $8,333 per month/ $99,996 per year

 

*New testing standards for General Plant Operators went into effect January 1, 2019.  All interested candidates who previously qualified on the previous GPO test must take and qualify on the new GPO 2.0 test to be considered.  If you meet the basic job requirements during the screening process, you will receive an invitation to take the GPO 2.0 test to meet the new requirements for General Plant Operators.
