This position exists to perform semi-skilled and skilled tasks in a variety of trade areas. This includes making adjustments to machinery; replacing parts; repairing buildings, equipment and miscellaneous articles, and providing assistance to other staff as needed, including performing various duties of other maintenance staff when those staff are on leave or otherwise unavailable at MCF- Oak Park Heights.
This position has direct contact with incarcerated individuals.
**Minimum Qualifications**
To be qualified for and considered for this position, applicants must meet all of the minimum qualifications listed below. Ensure that your resume contains descriptions of your work experiences sufficient for comparison against the requirements stated below and indicate the beginning and ending month and year for each job held.
+ Knowledge of general methods and practices of a variety of trade areas (e.g. mechanics, masonry, welding, electrical, plumbing and carpentry) sufficient to assist licensed trades workers and to repair machinery, tools and facilities in a timely and safe manner.
+ Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety measures related to trades work sufficient to safely and efficiently perform the job duties.
+ Ability to safely use hand and power hand tools.
+ Ability to safely operate and maintain trucks, tractors, and other ground and road maintenance equipment.
+ Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
+ Ability to provide work instructions to unskilled helpers.
+ Ability to perform physically demanding tasks such as lifting, carrying and bending
**Preferred Qualifications**
The following qualifications are strongly desired of applicants seeking consideration for this position:
+ Possess the skills and abilities necessary to fabricate, install, remove, repair and select proper materials in order to do repair work and renovation within the facility.
+ Basic knowledge in grounds keeping, snow removal, and irrigation systems.
**Physical Requirements**
The completion of pre-placement physical components may be required prior to hire for this position. These components consist of a tuberculosis, commercial drivers license (CDL) drug test, and/or respiratory clearance. **Additional Requirements**
The selection process may include screening the top candidate(s) on their criminal history, predatory offender registration, offender associations and/or other applicable background information in accordance with Department of Corrections’ policy. Top candidate(s) must pass a criminal history check which includes successful completion of all sentencing and/or restitution requirements of law enforcement jurisdictions, including probation.
Employment history/reference checks, including incidents of sexual harassment, will also be conducted on the top candidate(s) in accordance with Department of Corrections’ policy. This may include a review of job performance and discipline records.
New employees will be fingerprinted within the first 30 days of employment.
