GENERAL SUMMARY AND PURPOSE:
Responsible for the monitoring and evaluation of the Emergency General Surgery Verification Program (EGS-VP), including organization of services and systems necessary for a multidisciplinary approach to care of the Emergency General Surgery (EGS) patient. Collaborate and communicate with and between physicians, clinical staff, and departments, to coordinate EGS services and maintain continuity of care. Plans and oversees education for staff, physicians and community as needed. Abstract data on qualifying EGS-VP registry patients as defined within the accreditation manual. Represents the EGS program on various hospital and community committees.
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Must be licensed in the State of Idaho as a Registered Nurse as defined by the Idaho State Board of Nursing.
Multistate licenses must establish residency with the Idaho Board of Nursing within 60 days from hire.Bachelor’s degree in nursing-master’s degree preferred. 5 years of work experience as an inpatient nurse in Emergency, Operating Room, Med Surg, or Critical Care. Surgical Critical Care/Stepdown experience highly preferred.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Partner across the organization to ensure compliance with the current version of the American College of Surgeons (ACS) EGS-VP standards.
2. Monitor and track EGS patients throughout the continuum of care.
3. Maintain oversight of the daily operational aspects of the EGS service, including monitoring care of in-hospital patients, ensuring compliance with facility and equipment resources, and serving as a resource for clinical practice
4. In coordination with the EGS-VP Medical Director and other clinical professionals, develop, deploy, and maintain clinical care protocols/practice management guidelines, referral algorithms, and tracking mechanisms to ensure alignment with accreditation requirements and evidence-based practice.
5. Monitor performance improvement activities in conjunction with the EGS-VP Medical Director, including clinical outcomes and system issues related to the quality-of-care delivery.
6. In conjunction with the EGS-VP Medical Director, oversee and facilitate the quality improvement efforts the EGS Committee, assuring a multi-disciplinary approach to reviewing care and outcomes.
7. Perform systematic, data-driven quality improvement (QI) activities based on established methodology to improve processes or outcomes.
8. Perform clinical data abstraction and analysis to ensure accurate reporting and to support programmatic QI activity.
9. Ensure data collection and reporting occurs within the specified timeframes for maintenance of program accreditation.
10. Obtain and maintain all required certifications, training, and/or CME requirements as they pertain to the role of program manager and data abstraction.
11. Utilize program data to monitor, identify, and track improvement with identified QI initiatives.
12. Maintain surveillance of specific events captured through data abstraction, maintaining at minimum the events required for accreditation.
13. Support the EGS-VP Medical Director with case review and data collation to ensure an appropriate, standardized case review process.
14. Provide oversight for local and regional professional staff development and education.
15. Develop and support education and outreach to primary care physicians and referring facilities on timely diagnosis of EGS conditions to avoid delays in transfer and care.
16. Maintain involvement with research selection, analysis, and distribution of findings, as appropriate.
17. Meet medical center’s Customer Services Standards including interpersonal communication and professional conduct expectations.
