Positions perform a variety of physical labor tasks requiring some knowledge and experience in their work assignments. Some of the duties performed are to prepare, prime, paint, or repaint all surfaces of marine vessels and equipment and are below the semi-skilled or sub-journey level. Work is performed with only general supervision in repetitive and routine assignments and may be closely supervised when assisting higher-level trades workers in performing more complex work. + Cleaning to prepare, prime, paint, or repaint all surfaces of marine vessels and equipment. + Position removes rust and loose paint, cleans metal, and prepares all surfaces for primer. + Work involves sandblasting and sand washing hulls, super structures, and voids of marine vessels. + Work requires the ability to operate pneumatic chipper, needle gun, and using hand tools. + Work also includes the maintaining of equipment in the painting trade. Chosen applicant must be able to pass a fit-for-duty test and a cardiopulmonary function test. This position is located at the Ferry Shipyard at Manns Harbor - Paint Department Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies Applicants must submit an application that clearly reflects work experience that demonstrates the following: + Basic knowledge of the application of trade skills to the duties assigned. + Skill in the use of sandblaster, chipper, and scaler and other tools and equipment used in the painting trade. + Experience in following oral and written instructions or diagram form. + Demonstrated ability moving relatively heavy objects, operating equipment, and working aloft for considerable periods of time.
