General Utility Worker (Moving/Hauling)
Description: General Utility Worker performs physical labor that includes grounds upkeep, moving and hauling and setting up for special events. This position will also drive the University’s sanitation truck and/or other vehicle daily to collect and remove trash, recyclables, and non-recyclable waste materials from campus facilities and grounds. Primary Function of Organizational Unit: Facilities Operations is responsible for providing services relative to buildings and grounds maintenance, utilities, transportation, trash removal, central receiving, recycling, disposition of surplus property and moving and hauling. In addition Facilities Operations’ expanding responsibilities include providing support services for the instruction and research programs to achieve the University’s mission, goals and objectives. Maintain, improve and expand all campus buildings, campus image and educational opportunities for all people. More specifically, the functions involve energy conservation, building renovation/repair, occupational safety and health, landscape design, event planning, vehicle and equipment maintenance and repair, motor pool and housekeeping services to 126 academic buildings, ten residences and seven farm buildings. Moreover, the Small Projects Unit manages in-house all campus renovation and repair projects that do not exceed $300k. Internal job number: 004754 Requirements: Some knowledge of cleaning procedures, ability to follow instructions and to perform medium to heavy physical work; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Special certification may be required for some of these positions. Preferred: High school diploma or equivalent with three (3) years of related experience in performing a variety of grounds maintenance tasks, moving and hauling. Experience operating heavy duty motorized equipment, small engine grounds equipment and garbage truck. Job Closing Date: 03/02/2025
