Description:

Saint Mary’s Hospital a member of Trinity Health Of New England is looking for an experienced Genetic Counselor to come join our highly specialized Cancer Center Team.

The Genetic Counselor is responsible for meeting with patients and families, assess cancer risk, discuss implications of hereditary cancer, arrange testing and interact with the multi-disciplinary team. Must be able to educate about cancer genetics, inheritance, genetic testing, medical management, prevention, resources, and research.

What will you do: 

Provides direct genetic counseling in the area of hematology/oncology medicine.Ensures continuity of care by communicating information concerning patient condition or need to care team.facilitate appointments to complete the family history, risk assessment, and testing considerations as indicated.Provides consultation and intervention strategies within the health care team.Discusses options for patient management and conducts follow-up on patient care        Provides supportive and counseling services to hematology/oncology medicine patients and their family units within Saint Mary’s Hospital.

 Minimum Qualifications

Education: Master’s degree in genetic counseling and/or human genetics required.Experience: 3-5 years experience in hereditary cancer genetics preferred.Certification:  Board certification by the American Board of Genetic Counseling required.Skills:  Effective interpersonal relationship with strong writing and verbal communication skills.
