Genomics Lab Research Associate

Job Summary

Mid level scientist who independently conceptualizes and conducts research that leads to original ideas or solutions to relevant problems. May also oversee the operations and manage the inventory in the Genomics Lab.

We are seeking a Research Associate to be a member of the Genomics lab in Wilmington, DE. The Genomics lab is part of the Data Analytics group in R&D at IFF and it provides Next Generation DNA/RNA Sequencing (NGS) and Real Time PCR support to R&D, Regulatory, and Manufacturing.  IFF is an industry leader in food, beverage, health, biosciences and sensorial experiences, and use science and creativity to create essential solutions for a better world. Our Health and Biosciences division creates enzymes and other biobased inventions used by manufacturers to increase the productivity and environmental benefits of nearly 400 consumer and commercial products, such as foods, beverages, animal nutrition, textiles, household cleaning,  grain processing, and biofuels. IFF’s R&D Center in Wilmington, DE is a major R&D center of excellence for all biotechnology, including molecular biology & microbiology, biochemistry, host engineering, microbiome science, automation and fermentation.   

 
The associate will be responsible for DNA/RNA purification, sequencing library preparation and QC, NGS DNA Sequencer and associated equipment operation, molecular biology method development, and interacting with project scientists for troubleshooting and implementing process improvements.  The associate will divide their time between DNA sequencing, Real Time PCR, and other laboratory responsibilities.  Experience with standard molecular biology techniques such as PCR, Q-PCR, DNA/RNA purification, gel electrophoresis, DNA sequencing are essential. Candidates should be self-motivated, thrive in a research team environment, and be eager to take on new challenges. 

Qualifications 
 

-  Bachelor’s degree in biology, biochemistry, chemistry or related field, with a minimum of 5 years of laboratory experience, which could include equivalent advanced degrees. 

-  Minimum 3 years of experience working with Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) technology 

- Supervisory or laboratory leadership experience required 

-  Basic molecular biology/biochemistry laboratory skills 

-  Strong inter-personal and effective written and oral communication skills 

-  Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team environment 

-  Demonstrated ability to maintain and promote a safe working environment
