We have an exciting opportunity for aGeographic Communications Managerlocated at ourDow Louisiana Operationssite inPlaquemine, LA!In this role, you will be part of the Corporate Public Affairs function and report directly to the US South Public Affairs Director. You will play a key role in advancing our reputation as the most innovative, customer-centric, inclusive and sustainable materials science company in the world.
We are seeking an enthusiastic and experienced communications professional to join a small, fast-paced, collaborative team across the US Gulf Coast. Competency, positivity and being an innovative problem solver will build the trust needed with community partners, employees and media for quality content creation. You will be expected to be a strategic thinker with meticulous attention to detail, working well under pressure and meeting deadlines without prompting. You should take responsibility and ownership of your projects and actively bring strategic suggestions to the team.
Successful candidates will demonstrate a strong ability to write and create a wide variety of content in several formats such as web copy, infographics, internal announcements, presentations, videos, media pitches and social media outreach. You will also work with internal partners to brainstorm content ideas, in line with the company’s strategy and in support of various brand initiatives – translating information into insights and a communication strategy while adhering to the company’s branding guidelines is imperative.
The Communications Manager role is an opportunity to work within the West Baton Rouge and Iberville Parish area, as well as the greater Baton Rouge region to increase community benefit on behalf of Dow. This position is a conduit between Dow Louisiana Operations and our near neighbors, parish leadership, and with regional NGOs and media. You will oversee community relationships with key partners and manage issues that are important to a diverse stakeholder group.
As you gain experience in the role and build business acumen, typically a six-month process, you will be expected to train and serve in an incident on-call role with the other public affairs and communications managers responding to the community and media.
Responsibilities
+ Develop internal communication plans in line with broader corporate communications strategies that advances the Dow brand and delivers on business imperatives.
+ Recommend a communication strategy for each of the projects, programs and events which strive to connect, engage, and inform.
+ Use official Dow communication channels to establish and plan for a regular cadence of internal messaging, as well as consistent updates of communications priorities.
+ Collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders such as corporate and business to deliver direct and succinct messaging.
+ Build community trust and relationships with Iberville and West Baton Rouge parish leaders including coordinating and leading the site’s Community Advisory Panel (CAP).
+ Employ storytelling techniques for maximum impact, identifying external news opportunities and writing feature stories that can be used for community education and trust building.
+ Edit and approve final Dow branded communications for local, regional and state media.
+ Work with vendors / agency partners to support communication projects.
+ Build local media relationships and drive Dow’s reputation.
+ Participate in crisis communications and media training during first six months of job and engage in crisis response activities as needed.
Qualifications
+ A minimum of a bachelor’s degree (business or communications related field preferred) or relevant military experience at or above a U.S. E6 or Canadian Petty Officer 2nd Class or Sergeant ranking.
+ A minimum of 5 years of relevant working experience.
+ A minimum requirement for this U.S. based position is the ability to work legally in the United States. No visa sponsorship/support is available for this position, including for any type of U.S. permanent residency (green card) process.
Your Skills
+ Previous media relations and crisis communications preferred.
+ Writing: Experience writing for large audiences, feature writing, copy editing, working in a matrix organization.
+ Professional Networking: Mature professional capable of working with business leaders on strategic projects/initiatives.
+ Strategic Communication Management: Innovative, organized and self-motivated with a keen interest in driving strategic messages to key internal and external audience.
+ Task Coordination: Self-directed toward the completion of goals and strategy.
+ Results-Oriented: Ability to achieve positive results within allotted time frames while servicing partners and clients in a large geographic region with unique needs given communities in which they operate, product lines and employee base.
+ Collaborative Spirit: Must have understanding and ability to respect others and contribute to a workplace with a vibrant, diverse and talented employee base.
