Geologic Modeler

Leidos is seeking a Geologic Modeler to support hydrogeologic investigations, groundwater modeling, and environmental data visualization tasks for projects across the United States. The position can be remote (work from home) or based in Leidos offices in Twinsburg, Ohio; Bothell, Washington; Earth City, Missouri; or Reston, Virginia.

The Geologic Modeler will support and manage aspects of environmental investigation and remediation projects, including numerical modeling of groundwater, surface water, sediment transport, and/or related media; contaminant fate and transport modeling, data visualization (2D and 3D); trend analysis, task/project management; data analysis and interpretation; and report preparation.

The Geologic Modeler will work collaboratively with Leidos Project Managers, Senior and Junior Staff, and interface with multiple Leidos offices and subcontractors.

The Geologic Modeler will support environmental site characterization investigations and remediation projects, including development of 2D and 3D Conceptual Site Models (CSMs), geospatial analysis, numerical modeling of groundwater, contaminant fate and transport modeling, data visualization (2D and 3D); trend analysis, data analysis and interpretation; and report preparation. The Geologic Modeler will work collaboratively with Leidos Project Managers and Senior Staff, junior staff, and interface with multiple Leidos offices and subcontractors.

Must be able to travel domestically for client meetings and/or potential site visits up to 15% of the time.

Must be able to obtain access to, and conduct work on, U.S. Government installations. U.S. Citizenship or U.S. Permanent Resident status is required.

Primary Responsibilities:

Execute project tasks as assigned, including geologic/hydrogeologic data analysis, 2D and 3D geologic modeling, groundwater elevation contouring, groundwater sampling plan design, developing CSMs

Develop 2D cross-sections and 3D models to simulate site hydrogeology and contaminant distribution

Support physical and/or numerical modeling of hydraulic/hydrologic processes related to contaminant fate and transport

Develop visualizations to present complex model results

Simulate and estimate physical, chemical, and biological processes related to contaminant fate and transport

Compile, interpret, and report data to meet project quality assurance requirements under Federal (e.g. CERCLA), state, and/or client programs

Support preparation of technical reports, including complex technical analysis, CSMs, and visual data presentations, including maps, cross sections, data tabulations, development, analysis, and selection of remedial alternatives

Prepare and present project findings to internal project teams, clients, regulatory agencies, and the public

Willing and able to travel to project locations and attend client meetings

What Sets You Apart:

Bachelor’s degree in geology, hydrogeology, mining engineering, environmental engineering, or relevant field and a minimum of 5 years’ experience in the environmental field.

Proficiency in 3D data visualization software, e.g., C-Tech EVS, LeapFrog, EarthVision, or similar

Proficiency in 2D data visualization software such as Surfer and/or GIS

Interpretation and analysis of chemical, geotechnical, geologic, hydrogeologic, and/or engineering data to address project/reporting requirements

Detailed knowledge of the hydrogeologic aspects of environmental site characterization and remediation including monitoring well design and construction; working knowledge of environmental sequence stratigraphy (ESS), groundwater sampling, groundwater flow, contaminant fate and transport, CSM development, fracture flow and preferential flow paths, and the relationship between geology

Proficiency in MS Office tools (Excel, Word, Access, Outlook, Project, PowerPoint)

You Might Also Have:

Master’s degree in geology, hydrogeology, environmental engineering, or relevant field, and at least 7' years experience in environmental consulting with comprehensive experience in geologic modeling and hydrogeology.

Proficiency in Environmental Sequence Stratigraphy (ESS)

Proficiency in groundwater and surface water modeling including MODFLOW-USG/MODFLOW 6, Groundwater Vistas, Aqtesolv, pumping test analysis, and similar programs

Specialized skills/experience in environmental regulatory requirements; environmental statistical methods (e.g., trend analysis) and software tools (e.g., SAS); environmental databases (e.g., data management); or commonly employed contaminant fate/transport models (e.g., SESOIL, AT123D, DUST)

Licensure as a professional engineer and/or professional geologist

Working knowledge of emerging PFAS technical guidance and investigations

Prior completion of OSHA 1910.120 hazardous waste worker certification (40-hour HAZWOPER) and OSHA occupational physical exam and medical clearance allowing performance of field work at hazardous waste sites)
