Steelmaking Coal
Steelmaking coal is an essential ingredient in blast-furnace steel manufacture, producing steel used for critical building and infrastructure around the world.   In Australia, we operate two open cut and three underground Steelmaking coal mines in Queensland’s Bowen Basin, every year producing millions of tonnes of the highest quality hard coking coal for this purpose.

Job Description

Reporting to the Technical Services Superintendent, the geologist role plays a key role in maximising the resource at Capoal Open Cut in Middlemount, by providing timely and accurate high quality geoscience data for the complex.

Responsibilities of your role will include:

Understating, following and promoting the Capcoal Safety and Health policies and proceduresGeological hazard identificationMapping and data validation to generate fit for purpose short term models for mine and drill and blast planningReactive ground sampling and assessments to improve safety and optimise plansDaily operational support to ensure the minimisation of coal loss and contaminationSupport with continuous improvement initiativesCreating and delivering daily and weekly geology / coal updates to operationsResource reconciliationsAttend and contribute to daily production meetings

In addition, your effective communication and collaboration with short-term planning, survey, and operational teams will be a key focus of the role.

Qualifications

To be successful you will have the following:

Tertiary qualifications in Geological Sciences or equivalentAt least two years experience in operational mining, preferably open cut coal mining.Experience with the following software packages would be preferable.3D modelling software packagesMinexVulcanGeological databases eg acQuireAutocadStrong analysis, problem solving and attention to detailExcellent communication and stakeholder management skills
