Job Description

AECOM is actively seeking a highly motivated Geologist for employment in the San Diego, CA office. This position would support the Environmental business line, primarily working on Federal projects.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

Manage multiple projects within client's scope/budget/schedule expectations and ensure quality standards on project deliverables

Provide team leadership and oversight of consultants and subcontractors for site investigation and remediation projects with complex technical/regulatory issues, to ensure their work aligns with our client's goals and expectations

Build strong collaborative relationships with AECOM employees, clients, and subcontractors

Communicate with stakeholders who are affected by contamination with knowledge/consideration of local and regional social, political, and legal issues

Ensure that best practices and appropriate technology are used for all remediation activities

Maintain up to date knowledge of local, state, and Federal regulations

Utilizes basic scientific principles, theories, practices and existing technologies to develop solutions for technical problems with limited scope.

Prepares technical work plans and reports.

Experience with CERCLA and RCRA

Interprets and records data, conducts analyses, compares findings to relevant studies and local, state and federal regulations to ensure compliance.

Plan, execute, analyze and report on environmental measures in natural systems.

Apply standard field practices and techniques using basic field equipment to collect samples of soil, soil vapor, groundwater, surface water, sediment; prepare samples for shipping, and complete chain-of-custody or similar paperwork.

Apply knowledge of natural sciences (chemistry, physics, biology, hydrology, and mathematics) to explain observations.

Conduct oversight of subcontractors including laboratories and excavation and drilling companies.

Study contaminants and determine how to restore the environment.

Prepare basic data and scientific documents.

Possess technical report writing skills.

Performs unsupervised field tasks.

Direct staff in the execution of tasks.

Mentor junior field tasks.

Review analytical data for general indicators of quality for routine analyses based on well-defined guidelines.

Provide technical expertise support.

Learn and develop a keen understanding of hazard recognition; and environmental investigation or remediation.

Travel to various job sites within the US

Flexibility to work on a multitude of diverse projects, a positive attitude, and commitment to workplace health and safety

 

 

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Geology or Hydrogeology

6 years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education

Valid U.S. Driver's License

Due to the nature of the work, US Citizenship is required.

Candidate must be able to pass a State and Federal criminal history/security background check to obtain U.S. Federal Government Credentials.

Preferred Qualifications

Master's degree in geology, hydrogeology or other related discipline (e.g., geophysics, hydrogeology, geochemistry, environmental geology, engineering geology).

Professional registration or track to obtain professional registration.

Experience with developing conceptual site models, and preparing remediation and assessment strategies

Proficiency in standard office suite software applications.

Ability to demonstrate professional demeanor in written and verbal communications with clients, regulatory officials, and fellow employees.

Ability to write and to convey complex thoughts and ideas in a clear, concise manner. Ability to learn through on-the-job experience.

OSHA 40 Hour HAZWOPER Certification

Frequently lifting, carrying, and loading equipment without assistance up to 50lbs.Previous experience or proven ability in operating a full-size pickup truck.

Be medically fit for wearing a respirator

Candidate must be able to meet the medical clearance requirements of an OSHA (HAZWOPER) medical surveillance physical examination.

Tolerance for work in outdoor environments in a range of weather conditions.

Ability to travel.
