Geology Technician - UG
Position Description:
The Underground Geology Technician is responsible for supporting the geology team in collecting, processing, and managing geological data underground. This role plays a vital part in ensuring quality control of sampling, data integrity, and efficient communication between geology, mining, and technical services teams. The technician will work in an active underground mine environment and must be comfortable with physical tasks and underground conditions.
Responsibilities:
Assist geologists in the collection and preparation of underground rock samples (e.g., chip, muck, and drill core samples) Ensure proper labeling, bagging, and transportation of samples to the assay lab. Enter sample and geological data into databases or software (e.g., AcQuire, Excel) Track and report daily production material movement Support face mapping activities using standardized protocols. Photograph faces and other geological features for digital records. Provide assistance during underground diamond drill programs, including layouts, coordination with drilling crews, and core handling. Follow all site safety protocols and procedures Conduct underground work in compliance with regulations and company standards Self-motivated with the ability to work independently as well as with others. Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Grade 12 diploma or equivalent required Post-secondary education in geology, mining, or a related field (e.g., Geological Technician Diploma) preferred Previous experience in an underground mining environment is an asset Knowledge of sampling procedures and geological data collection is an asset Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) required Effective written and verbal communication abilities required Physically capable to work in all environments, including underground, confined spaces and at heights required Able to lift 50 lbs required Adaptability to challenging conditions, including varying temperatures, noise, and environmental factors required. Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team environment required Ability to handle multiple priorities with competing deadlines required
The position is on a 14/14 rotation schedule, working 12-hour day shifts.
