Shell is seeking a Geomatics Operations Surveyor to join the dynamic Geomatics team in Houston, TX, providing expertise to a wide range of stakeholders across the local business.
The team is primarily focused on delivery to Upstream but increasingly to New Energy transition areas such as CCS. The team’s business delivery themes include Situational Awareness, Geospatial Data Integration, Asset Integrity Survey, Well and Engineering Delivery, and Emergency Preparedness and Response.
As a Geomatics Operations Surveyor, this role provides an opportunity for an experienced Operations Surveyor who will be responsible for the safe, high-quality, and efficient delivery of survey and positioning operations. More specifically, the role involves planning, coordinating, and managing high-resolution geophysical data acquisition for seabed survey projects, asset inspection surveys, geotechnical and environmental surveys, engineering and construction survey support, subsea positioning activities, rig positioning, seismic survey navigation, and general positioning support.
Accountabilities:
Lead project management for offshore geophysical, environmental, geotechnical, and asset inspection surveys.
Provide survey and positioning expertise for rig moves, well positioning, subsea construction, and decommissioning activities.
Ensure delivery of survey operations in line with HSSE targets, with accountability for Goal Zero performance.
Manage budgets, track KPIs, and ensure delivery against fiscal targets.
Oversee contractor performance and utilize relevant contracts for survey and positioning work.
Maintain geodetic integrity and provide technical guidance on geodetic systems and transformations.
Collaborate with Geospatial colleagues to produce and quality check maps, charts, and other geospatial products.
Support operational risk assessments (e.g., HIRAs), and contribute to HSSE reviews and audits.
Lead After Action Reviews, capturing lessons learned for continuous improvement.
Supervise and mentor staff, consultants, and survey representatives involved in Geomatics operations.
Promote Geomatics capabilities across projects and asset teams.
Implement Shell and industry standards, work processes, and best practices for Geomatics Operations.
What you bring
Must have legal authorization to work in the US on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer
Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Geomatics, Geo-Information Science, Geoscience, or a related technical discipline is preferred
At least 5+ years of operational experience in offshore survey and positioning, including rig/well positioning, geophysical and engineering surveys, and asset integrity support
Extensive geodetic knowledge, including defining and managing geodetic parameters
Familiarity with geospatial systems and data techniques
Proven ability to manage contractors, ensure HSSE compliance, and deliver QA/QC across survey activities
Solid understanding of the breadth of Geomatics capabilities and their application to upstream and energy transition projects
Experience with contract execution planning and project resource/schedule management
Preferred Experience With
Industry-standard survey and positioning software (e.g., QINSy, Eiva NaviPac, Starfix, Kongsberg, Sonardyne systems)
Marine navigation, acoustic positioning, and survey acquisition systems
Working in cross-discipline teams, including engineers, geologists, and project managers
What we offer
The base salary range for this position is $146,000 - $218,000 per year. Individual pay will be based on various factors, such as relevant work experience, education, certifications, skill level, seniority, and internal equity.
For regular full-time or regular part-time employees of the Company (participating companies as listed in the Summary Plan Description), insurance coverage options include medical, dental, vision coverage, life Insurance, Business Travel Accident Insurance, and Occupational Accidental Death Benefit programs. Employees also participate in a company pension plan and a 401(k) plan. Paid leave includes up to 6 weeks of paid vacation time, up to 11 paid holidays, and parental leave offering 16 weeks of paid leave for birthing parents, and 8 weeks of paid leave for non-birthing parents.
Additionally, employees are eligible for short-term disability leave for up to 26 weeks at 100% or 50% of base pay as well as Long-Term Disability insurance. Shell also offers other compensation such financial reimbursement for adoption, wellness, education, and personal learning expenses, and some roles are eligible for discretionary long-term incentives. For interns, eligible benefits include medical, dental, and vision coverage, life insurance, Business Travel Accident Insurance, and Occupational Accidental Death Benefit programs; participation in a 401(k) plan; and paid leave for up to 11 paid holidays.
